I have been looking at the sds200 with the thought of upgrading from my sds100. I see that the Walmart listing is
Uniden SDS200 True L/Q Trunk Tracker X.

No one else I see uses the "X" in there discription. Does the "X" mean anything....good or bad.
Thank you
Mike

the 100 and 200 have the same radio. the 200 allows an Ethernet connection and a few more USB ports plus the GPS is different. The form factor is of course different. I have them both using the 200 as a home unit with the 100 for traveling.

The two extra USB ports... USB A on the front and a Micro USB on the back are for future functionality...
There has not been any kind of update to utilize those ports yet...
At this point there probably never will be either...

Sadly, I expect that you are correct about that.

So would I, but I doubt we ever will. Joe Bearcat has mentioned that he is not even close to having the level of authority that Paul did. Paul was a PM not just for scanners, but other products as well. My impression over the years was that he had a lot of pull with Uniden America and with Japanese HQ as well.

I don't think we'll ever see that level of support again.

I sure would like to know what Paul (UPMan) had planned for those two ports...

This is somewhat off topic but this situation could be used to test some so called mediums. Hold a séance. If I understand correctly, normally they try to read the room and answer in generalities. I wonder how they would handle contacting Paul and being asked to get the answers to specific technical questions.

I guess that was supposed to be a joke. My confusion stems from the fact that jokes are generally funny.

Oh, the Upman could well have written down his thoughts and left them in his desk. Joe Bearcat could have them in hand, but is keeping Upman's philosophy: don't mention new stuff until it is ready to go.

Upman was a pretty smart fellow and cared about customers. He knew his health situation so I'm sure he tied up every loose end he could before his downturn.

Doesn't seem like he has been gone almost three years now.

I am not familiar with the history here. Is he deceased or in very poor health?

Upman was the main guy behind Uniden scanners. He held the patent for location based scanning.

prior to Uniden, he had a similar role at radio shack.

it was an interesting night taking him out to dinner just to pick his brain and listen to where he saw scanners going.

Wait….. range control???? Like setting the radius the scanner will pick up? I’m confused now lol. I know you can set your zip code but will the scanner actually avoid signals that are outside a certain defined range? And is a gps module required for this? Hmm???
