Going to program a scanner for someone that lives out of area. I recall seeing prior conversations about installing a second instance of Sentinel so you don't screw up your own programming, but you were supposed to save it or do something differently. Been searching the forums but all I get is creating a different profile. Im stuck. Any help is appreciated.

Sentinel doesn't permit multiple instances. To get around it, you have to install Sentinel on another computer.

{edit} If they did allow a 2nd instance then the 2nd install could overwrite the 1st.
You can make a backup. Navigate to this folder then copy and save to another location.

Bearing in mind that Uniden primarily is a hardware manufacturer and not a software developer, it isn't very flexible.

That said, you can "fool" Sentinel by creating a second folder for your data, duplicating all files (everything) that is in your primary folder. Then going to the Tools>Options... you can point to the file folder you want to be active. Once you've done that, you can manipulate files as desired. After writing to the friend's scanner (or SD card for the scanner), be sure to switch back to the primary data folder.

This is cumbersome and fraught with things going wrong if you are not carefully paying attention to what you are doing.

I'd suggest going the ProScan route as their main thing is software development and it is more flexible.

Legitimately, the only time you can have two instances of Sentinel is if you have both the SDSx00 and the HomePatrol versions, as they're two separate programs. (And since I have both types of scanners, that's a reality, sometimes, for me....)

I have 4-5 different Sentinels installed. When you install a new copy, select a different folder to install it to and it will be a totally isolated install from the first one where it stores the favorite lists for that specific Sentinel. During the install where it asks for the install folder, change the folder name to something else, like BCDx36_friend, to distinguish them on the desktop.
