So far these are the only closures I have seen:
North River Road closed between Bridgeview Street and Irwin Drive
Sept. 4, Thursday 11:30am to 4:30pm
Sept. 5, Friday 2:30pm to 4:30pm
Sept. 6, Saturday 3:00pm to 6:00pm
Sept. 7, Sunday 3:00pm to 6:00pm

Any other updates as far as road closures are concerned? I'm hoping my Plan A doesn't get cut off.

I can confirm today's closure time was correct. It didn't matter though; I was in two places for the Blue Angels' orientation flight in the early afternoon, and they flew over me at low altitude so many times it became old hat. Should be interesting to see when they fly Friday with the impending storm rolling in.

Showing spotty showers 4-6 pm, doubt it will effect scheduling much.
Where were you at if you don't mind me asking ?

I started out by taking 21 Mile to Jefferson and sitting outside the DNR Selfridge Boat Launch site. After a while I moved to Continental Drive, off of 21 Mile, where there was all sorts of space and I was overjoyed to find out nothing has changed since the last show, in that the planes (BA, in this case) flew all day over my vehicle. I think today might have been better than the actual show. They flew so low I could see the pilot extremely clearly. It was very, very cool.

If today showed me anything, I'm more than confident that Continental Drive will be the place to be. The GM Powertrain parking lot, at the end of Continental, actually flows east into a dirt driveway that connects to the next eastmost street, and you can take that street to where it ends at the government owned land. There are so many different places where you can park and enjoy the show, with a scanner, of course. I do anticipate that some of those businesses will be hosting parties, so there will be areas where you might have to park and watch from the street if its crowded.

Wow, show was a drag [except for the Angels of course].
Only other jet act was Mig 17 who flew some real nice passes, all the rest parachute drops and civilian props.
OH F-16 came in just as I was getting there about 10:30. KC-135 did a bunch of passes followed by 4 A-10's. Not much in the way of arrivals, only ones to come in all day besides the F-16 was a nice T-38 from ED and B-17 from ypsi, that was literally it.
Left about 5:30, B-52 didn't come in while I was there.

Nice show from the Angles as usual, only did 1 high speed pass though, all the rest in military power, disappointing they really should crank up the speed and burners as much as possible.
Also the solos were flying formation with the other 4 for quite some time, really slowing down the pace of the show.
128.7 is airboss ,,, I heard the usual Angles chatter "A litttle morrre pullllll" but didn't catch any "smoke on/smoke off" at all which leads me to believe that I am missing a freq or 2.

Will be there tomorrow and Sun, weather looks like its going to be fine.

Did you put in the ones I listed here ?
The tbirds are in the first section.

Ronaldski's freqs were spot on. I heard the Airboss and the BA just fine.

I was pretty impressed with the BA yesterday. Sitting in that subdivision and having them fly so low was really cool. I can only speculate that since the public shows are today and tomorrow, the BA might ratchet up the speed a little bit. Weather is going to be excellent today and tomorrow for the show!

I've been loading freqs in 3 scanners so have a hard time keeping track of exactly what I have, I hear most BA comms fine just no "smoke on/smoke off", I doubt if they'd use a separate freq for that so I don't know.
Great show again today, still all passes in military power and no burner, guess thats just their routine for now. A couple solos did go close to high speed, but without the burner they sound pretty tame [to me].
Still more than enough to make the kiddies plug their ears.

x2 here, thank you for the list. Had fun Saturday.

Thanks!

Also on Sunday did the blues leave a bit after 6 pm? I ask as I was picking up a lot radio traffic way up here! Mainly it was general chit-chat type items.

Blues left about 5:45 [headed to Baltimore I believe] 2 pairs followed by 2 more, then #7 about 10 minutes later.
Didn't see hide nor hair of Fat Albert, don't know if they clipped the FA show because of budget constraints or what. There was a grey C130 over by the area where #7 [which also didn't fly at all save for arrival and departure] was parked and I did pick up a little traffic on FA freqs, not sure if maybe this was a FA replacement and they haven't had time to paint it.
Besides the Angels, who put on a stellar show today, saw the C-17 depart and B-25 & B-17 from Ypsi.
Was waiting for the T-38/F-5 and the OH F-16 to go, left about 7 and never saw them in the air. Not like the good old days when departing aircraft would do a pass or 2 or 3 before heading home, they all just upped and left. Mig 17 departed during the show a bit before the Angels took to the sky.

Saw a guy from Cleveland, he saw the show there last week and came up on a motorcycle to see this one. Said he got the info for finding this spot from the forum here in one of the Selfridge threads, good to know some use comes of this stuff.
Appeared to be a large crowd headed to the base but Sugarbush was below average with the crowds, on a scale of 10 I would rate this spot a 9, could not get much better.

Hello, I am the guy from Cleveland. Nice to meet you today XRay. My wife got a kick out of the story that I recognized you from your description in the original 2005 forum. Thank you again for your directions/map of the Sugerbush/Continental St. area. It was a great place to see the Blue Angels. In addition to being a nice view, it was great for the traffic on the way home. I went to the Selfrige Air Show a couple years back with my son and my brother. Then, it took us two hours to get from the base to the highway that year after the show. Today, from getting on the motorcycle to being on 94 was less than 5 minutes. Thanks also to anyone else on this forum that provided the freqs, it was a big help setting up my scanner before I left the house.

I attached a map of Burke Lakefront Airport where the Cleveland air show is. The purple pin is the spot I was telling you about today. It is the cool free spot to watch the airshow in Cleveland. The overpass is closed to car traffic during the airshow, so it is just people watching the airshow. There are usually a couple of hot dog carts up there, and there are port o pots in the muni parking lot visible to the southwest adjacent to the overpass. The neat part of that spot (besides being free) is that it is raised up 20-30 feet from the elevation of the airport since it is an overpass for exiting the shoreway, so you get a great view. The Cleveland Air show is always Labor Day weekend which means the airshow gets 3 full days (sat, sun, mon) plus a practice day Friday. Hope to see you there next year, and thanks again.

I figured I'd change it up on Sunday, since I viewed Friday's practice/show from Continental, and watched the show from my friend's home just south of 22 Mile off of Gratiot. I was surprised that a mere 2 miles away from the base, my scanner was hardly picking up anything from the base, until the BA went up and their freq went live. The BA made their turns directly above my friend's subdivision, and flew very close at times to her home.

I'd still have to give the nod to Continental, if only because my scanner picked up everything in that position. Having said that, it would rule to live where she does, in the Selfridge flightline. We saw the planes leave after the show...that was cool as they came back over the house.

Is there any word on the next show? I know it was a bi-annual deal, with this one being tri-annual, correct? Great show!!

Glad you could make it, Angels show was worth the drive I'm sure.
I've been going to Selfridge for decades and have been progressively kicked out of spot after spot, don't think they'll mess with this one as they'd pretty much have the close the industrial park to do it [theres a cop station back there too], and theres really not that many people that go back there anyhow.
Am going to have to go to CL next year, my problem is I usually go with some older guys who have to have a bit of shade, any of it there or is it just cement & sun ?

Was reading here that its tri annual now [last paragraph], which would really suck

Plenty of planning goes into Selfridge’s Open House and Air Show

I thought this one got bumped a year because of the sequestration BS, all military base shows got canned last year

Re the posts about Fat Albert: I was at the Cleveland Air show this year for practice on Friday, and the official air show on Saturday and Monday. Fat Albert did not fly any of those days in Cleveland either. I looked into it, and there are articles on the internet about Fat Albert hitting some birds in Florida, and that it is down for repairs due to the bird strike.

Re Cleveland air show shade: You can't tell from my screenshot map, but if you look at the area on Google maps you can see the area better. There are some trees on the inside of the turn. You can't tell how tall they are from Google maps, but they are quite tall and provide nice shade for most of the day. Many people set up their chairs, coolers, etc. under the shade of those trees. I see elderly folks and little kids there each year. Should be fine. I would suggest that you park at the east end of the muni lot because that is adjacent to the overpass and it would make for the shortest walk for your friends. It would be much less walking and sun than if you paid to go into the airshow itself. You do have to pay to park, but you pay by the car not the person, so pack up a van full of friends.

We generally park my truck for free by some old warehouses on E38th. Then we ride our bikes with backpack chairs and a small cooler down to the overpass, but for comfort, or folks that cant tolerate walking or heat, I would recommend paying at the muni lot.
