I am new to Sentinel, so I apologize if this is obvious...

I notice that I cannot seem to edit fields that I could in EZScan, like Channel Name, Alert Light, Delay, Volume Offset, etc. Right clicking lets me set Avoid and add it to a Favorites List, but I can't seem to edit any fields.

How do I enable this?

When in the Favorites List Editor, anything that you see in the right side pane can be changed. There are some fields that have a grey background - they can be changed but you are limited in your choices to the items listed in the drop down boxes/pop up window. (You see these drop down boxes/pop up window when you click on the cell.

(There are some computer programs where a "greyd-out" box means a non-changeable field, but Sentinel isn't one of them).

Only thing i see is the favorites list, i wanted to remove other states from the database. I can set avoids for everythinh under a state but that would take forever and i don't know if it would be permanent avoid

You can't edit the Main Database, except to set Avoids.

You don't need to manually Avoid everything in a state, Location Control turns off everything out of range automatically.

Why is it that I occasionally pickup a Canadian channel
Im in toledo oh. I figured it still scanned everything regardless of the range. But that makes sense cause it decreases the database freq. Thanks never thought of that.

For the purposes of this, I'm assuming that Chatham-Kent is in Canada. (Geography not my strongest suit).

If "something" in Chatham-Kent has been assigned a Range of 100 miles, Toledo is about 90 miles away, so your scanner will attempt to receive it. That's because you are inside that 100 mile circle by 10 miles.

Whether your scanner actually receives the "something" is a function of RF propogation. In some conditions you can receive it, other times you cannot.

I found the concept of Location/Range scanning to be a little challenging at first. It was pretty easy to think that setting the Scanner Range to 10 miles means I only receive stuff that is 10 miles away. However I found that wasn't the case. It's a case of the Scanner Range and System/Department/Site Range working together to determine whether there is an attempt to receive things.

Probably way over simplifying this, the Scanner Range value more or less extends the database Range value. For example if you live 60 miles away from a city whose radio system has a database range of 50 miles. If your Scanner Range is set to 0, the scanner will not attempt to monitor that city. But if you increase the Scanner Range to 20 miles, then the attempt will be made.
