Agree completely! After a very short learning period, I found creating FLs in Sentinel to be quick, easy, and actually somewhat enjoyable. In contrast, my few ventures into the world of profiles left me frustrated and confused. I quickly decided that I don't have enough "time" left for the hassle, lol.

I agree with that. Creating favorites lists in Sentinel and ARC536 is a breeze. It's just the whole Profile save thing. Why bother? And no 'undo'. That's insane.

I think this sums up my experience.

My problem is, I want to turn "service types" on/ off for different functions. I have two Favorites Lists. One for my home area and one for Live Audio (I will occasionally run this FL through Broadcastify with this scanner). I created a third FL for Travel/GPS. I want to turn some service types off, such as "Federal" and others, so as to not scan so much while using the GPS. But whatever I turn on/off on one profile turns if on/off for the other two. Why wouldn't Sentinel be designed to "tweak" individual Profile settings of different FL's?

If I understand correctly there is no way to turn on/off different service types for individual Favorites List either. Is there a work around? I would like to have different Favorites Lists (or Profiles), that I can customize settings, such as the service types.

Any setting made in the FL editor will remain unchanged, regardless of profile (well, unless you change something using FL editor, in which case those changes are shared across all profiles). Service Tags are at the profile level, so you can have multiple variations in Sentinel.

Of course, you can only load the settings and FL defined by one particular profile at a time.

Thanks for the reply. If I am understanding correctly, I think you are saying it is possible to do what I would like however I cannot figure out how.

Another example: I have a Favorites List in my Sentinel for a friends scanner. It is slightly varied from my list. An additional change besides the service type I would like to make, is the "Opening Message" under the Display in the Profile. I would like to put his contact information.

So, you're saying I can have multiple variations of service types- and I am assuming the opening message as well... but I cannot figure out how to change it on a favorites list without changing all favorites list.

Thanks again!

We all know that uniden has to put you a new version of Sentinel for DMR, I wish they add the ability to make different profiles. I have 2 536's and I have them set to monitor different things. And it's a PITA using the same profile for both!!!

Yes. You would want to Create/Edit Profiles. Selecting Service Types to scan and setting Opening Message are things set in a Profile.

For example, I have multiple scanners and scanning situations. So I have a 436 Home Profile, a 536 Home Profile, a 536 Car Profile and a 536 Destination Profile and a 436 Destination Profile.

Owing to the scanning situation, thus profile to use, I'll have some Service Types on and others off. (For example, at home Military is on, but for the others, it is off).

Getting to your situation, you'd want two profiles (at least): One is "My Profile" the other would be "Fiends Profile".

Lastly, your Sentinel "stuff" may consist of numerous Favorites Lists. These Favorites Lists are applicable/accessible/shared by every Profile. However you can configure a Profile so that a Favorites List is not written to a scanner (Download Off) or if written to a scanner, it isn't scanned by default (Monitor Off).

Yes Sentinel is a little complicated at first and I too used a lot of bad words in the beginning. But the more I tinkered with it, I became a lot more comfortable and can get it to do most everything I need. (Which is about like any other computer programs I've come across over the years).

O.K., I am making some progress. I finally have gotten through my thick head how to create additional profiles. The problem I am seeing is that the FL's seem to be consistent between separate profiles. What I add or avoid on one profile carries over to the the FL's on the others.

The Service Types seem unique between profiles.

Thanks again for your help.

That is correct - Favorites Lists are shared/used/accessed by every Profile.

Think of Favorites Lists as tools in the Sentinel toolbox. If you are doing something electrical, you'll probably get a screwdriver from the toolbox. If you are working on your car, you might also need that same screwdriver. Different tasks, but same tools.

What exactly are you wanting to accomplish?

The service type issue issue seems resolved with creating a new profile.

What I would like to do now is create separate "lists" (whether through FL's or separate Profiles) and have different or unique systems.

Basically, I would like to be able to avoid TG's on one FL without effecting the same TG's on another FL.

My beef with Sentinel is it takes forever to insert data compared to FreeScan.

For example, when entering PL, DPL, or NACs, you have to go through 3 drop down menus before you scroll down a VERY long list of tones. With Freescan, you click on one drop down menu for PL and DPL tones or you manually type the NAC code. If you live in a large metro area with large radio systems, it takes months to program everything.

I'm also not a fan of having to enter or select Service Types, I know the X36HP was designed around RadioReference but to me Service Types is useless. I very much dislike the fact that its not optional, you have to choose a service type or else CUSTOM 1 displays on every channel. Not to mention if you attempt to bypass Service Types, you still have to activate CUSTOM 1 or else nothing scans.

I personally prefer being able to manually type everything rather than deal with several steps involving drop down menus.

If you are meaning that you'd like some talkgroups in a certain Favorites List to be active in one scanner, but not another scanner, you have an option. (It's a little unconventional, but it'll work).

I would use Sentinel Favorites List editor to change the Service Types for those talkgroups to Custom 1. Then use the Profile Editor to disable Custom 1 Service Type on the profile for what you want avoided. Then enable Custom 1 Service Type on the scanner you want to hear (thus unavoided).

That's a good idea that should work. Kind of a strange work around for what should be an easy solution to customize. I'm surprised the software was designed this way. Maybe future updates will have a change.

Thanks!

It would be nice to know when the updated version might be available and whats been changed. I hope its going to more than just updated to support Dmr. I would like to see some of the things in other editors debut like duplicate freq checker for starters. Also the coping of things from one fav list to another needs some updating. Kind of a pain if one had a department in fav list a and wanted to add it to a system in fav list b. You have to append to the list, then copy it over to the desired location..

Wow. I was not aware that the 436/536 manual existed online. Great description of Profiles and how to use them. Even little ol' moi can understand them now!!
