Looks like Windows 8 doesn't know how to handle tabular columns.

Does Win8 have a Compatibility Mode? Try running in compatibility mode for Windows 7.

The compatibility mode option would be in the properties menu after right-clicking the icon used to start the program.

The other errors look to be access related. It might need reinstalling. UPMan will have to chime in on this.

All I can add is I've been running the HP Sentinel for a month or so on 8.1 and no issues. Never ran the 36hp one.

At least one of the errors would seem to indicate that you need to "Run as Administrator" to have access to a directory. Note that we do not officially support Windows 8.x at this time.

I just installed a ran on a fairly new 8.0 - updated to 8.1 machine.

No issues, except one of the windows during the install opened at the far far edge of the screen and all I could do was close it. Ran install again and had option to repair,2 or 3 seconds and was done.

Seems to run OK . Updated DB w/ no issue.

I can update the database with no problems. It will not let me export any file and I have those blurry columns.

Thanks

Created a fav. , exported, imported into HP1's Sentinel and no issue.

FWIW - only one user on this PC with administrator rights.

KE4ZNR, I was able to ping both homepatrol.com and ftp.homepatrol.com. After the pings the update worked, go figure!

Running both Sentinel for HP and Sentinel for new x36 series both under Windows 8.1 Enterprise x64 and no issues either UI or functional. I know it does not help you but just reporting for sake of reporting.

Windows 8/8.1 does not change much underlying dll or kernel components from Windows 7, at least none that would break somewhat benign programs like Sentinel.

So here is the usual set of checks:

--Was your Win 8/8.1 an upgrade from 7? If not, maybe some drivers for your particular hardware are not fully implemeted or well written. Check your Device Manager for errors.

--Do you have the latest Graphics drivers for your video card from the manufacturer? The one's from Windows Update can be a few versions behind

--Have you tried installing Sentinel in a NON standard location? That is, outside of C:\Program Files\ ?

--Have you tried disabling UAC?

--Does it work fine in Compat mode?
Get your apps and devices working in Windows 8.1 - Microsoft Windows Help

--Try creating a brand new user profile and then installing and running Sentinel as the new user and see if it runs any better

I notice you have a customized Windows Start button. That's a sign that not everything is standard on your install. Perhaps you can roll back some of the customizations? That may prove a fix for your issues.

Jay911 you are correct!! I right clicked on the icon and checked compatibility and it fixed everything. Also I did not upgrade from windows 7 to 8 . Windows 8 was installed on computer when I bought it and upgraded to 8.1 I also have the latest graphic drivers according to Microsoft.

Thanks for all the input!! :>)
