Not meaning to split hairs here but technically there's no forum dedicated to paging services so where else would this thread go?
This thread is fine where it is.

I wasn't saying it shouldn't be here, I just didn't know what it was, my apologies to all, especially @dom6vrr if my initial response sounded otherwise.

I may be a little biased - but Alertpage will be launching a brand new platform soon with a dedicated Mobile App to receive your alerts as Push Notifications. Id be happy to answer any questions - and if you'd like to check out a Free Sneak Peek - feel free to Sign Up on our Testing System. While its only sending to Email Currently - you can use the PUSHOVER APP to receive the alerts as text during the Testing Period. This is absolutely free and there is no obligation - you dont even have to add any payment information. Login - Alert Page

I got in contact with the "Breaking News Network", they advised me the police/fire buff plan is $39.95 monthly. They said I need to pay $156.44 for my first payment which includes "the first three months of service, activation, and taxes". The price is a little hefty , not sure if it's worth it...

I asked them for the last 5 incidents reported in my area to see if they have good coverage.
And what if there is no coverage in my area? They still charge me and then I find out the service is useless?
Maybe I missed it, but I didn’t see a map or list of coverage areas.

Yes, pretty much. I haven't seen a coverage map. I joined the service after a friend told me that there was a bunch of coverage in my area. Their coverage area depends on the incidents that other reporters send out, so it may vary. However, the primary focus is on NJ and the NYC Metro Area. They do have some other reporters in other states, but there's more of a presence in the NYC Metro Area. Especially NY and NJ

Looking at past incidents, I don't see any incidents from this year in your area (Based on your profile). The last incident paged in HI was the wildfire in Maui last year. Unfortunately, It's likely that there are little to no reporters in Hawaii.

Thanks for the details. Yeah, I wouldn’t expect there to be many reporters in my area.
I just realized that Hawaii County FD is using PulsePoint, was surprised to see that. Pretty neat.

Thanks for the info. What states currently have activity for testing?

Coverage is pretty much East of the Mississippi - and then Certain markets West. Some areas are very active - some only cover major incidents.

I'm a member of IPN but after last night, I'm not renewing. I'm in Houston, got an alert at 8:45 PM about a shooting, 2 deceased at a University, many agencies involved. This wasn't a small event.

I arrived at location at 9:05 PM, there were about 5 news outlet tripods set up so I thought I got there before the briefing. I saw one camera op breaking down his setup and asked him if they were given a heads up about when it'll start. He said it was over about 30 minutes ago!

I think IPN varies by market and, in Houston, it's spotty. But seriously, a double homicide shouldn't have been missed. YMMV

I just resigned up to IPN. its ok for me I live in Mass but also get RI. NY city and LA.
Pagers come in fine can have slow days and others were its nuts. It fills in the blanks at work were I cant use a scanner. I have been wearing a pager since the 60s so I am used to one on the belt.
Came in handy in the old days to get OT pagers for work at the PD.

I emailed BBN and almost immediately got a response from Sean. He said his service is on the East Coast, covering from the DC Metro area up into the New England region. So, I guess Chicago Metro isn't available, so I'll stick with IPN for now.

We finally are out of Beta with our new APP and alerting subscriptions. Things are going good and we have a pretty broad base of subscribers who have been with us from before 2010. We continue to add markets - and dispatchers - so its only going to get better. Hit me up if you have any questions.

And which service do you represent? Because at least 3 were mentioned here.
