No. It seems to receive fine. I just wish it would screw on farther. I do have a stable desktop stand for it. I was concerned of it tipping over and snapping off . Do you normally leave yours extend all the way or do you adjust for different frequencies? Most of what I listen to here in Indianapolis Indiana is 800.

Whiskey3JMC, I ordered, as you suggested , new Comet SMA-W100RX . It came in today😏I have just installed it and what I don’t think I like about it ....on my SDS100 anyway, It only screws on approximately 1 1/2 turns before it is tight. I know my REM20S threads on 7-10 turns. Is this normal?
Most SMA antennas WILL NOT fit the SDS100 correctly. There is no standard specifying how much of the connector is supposed to protrude from the radio, and every manufacturer does things a little differently. The SDS100 is on the short end of the spectrum, and therefore anything not specifically designed to fit the SDS100 won't. If you use that antenna, you'll probably strip off the last thread on the connector in fairly short order.

The best solution is to get a good BNC adapter designed specifically for the SDS100, and use BNC antennas exclusively.

I’m not necessarily married to this antenna. I am still a novice at this scanning stuff. 😉 I am really satisfied with reception and fit quality of my rem 800s with most of what I listen to here in Indianapolis it works just fine. Was just looking to explore some lower frequencies, air bands maybe some 400’s. Do you feel the BNC adapter that came with my radio is sufficient. I’ve read pros and cons here on this sight about the quality of it and the fact that with it on, you are more likely to snap off connector if it would happen to fall.

The 800S is specifically designed to fit the SDS100, so it fits correctly. But most other SMA antennas will not.

The BNC adapter that comes with the radio is not supported by the collar around the SMA connector, and if you drop the radio on the antenna, you can snap the SMA connector fairly easily. I have a SDS100 in my work queue right now with that exact issue. I make and sell a SMA-BNC adapter that press-fits into the collar so that side stresses are mostly transferred to the radio case instead of the connector, and it makes breaking the connector a lot less likely. There may be other sources if you look around a bit. I'm not aware of anyone who has broken their SMA connector while using a BNC antenna and my adapter.

Thanks jonwienke, how do I go about ordering one of these?

That looks great!! I just now ordered it. I would be interested in the gps mod also, except here in Indiana you must have an Amateur license to carry scanner in mobile, which I think is silly. What I do is setup web server in proscan at home and listen on my iphone when away from home in my mobile. Not traveling far from home with the covid stuff going on anyway😏

Nope, in this case the delay was on my end. :(
You should have gotten an email from PayPal with tracking. I apologize for the delay.

That’s just an excuse they can use. I worked for UPS for 30 years before retiring in 2015. They are facing the same volume increases if not more and seem to manage it ok😏.. thanks though
