I am a little confused if sevier county is using NXDN on an LTR trunking system .
I believe the LTR system and the NXDN system are separate. (Note for the database admin, this is a belief not a fact so don't go changing things :) )
Some of the original LTR system frequencies were removed and are being used on NXDN now. But still do not know if it is NXDN trunked, it is possible though.
That's about all the insight I can give, sorry

When I make my visit there whenever I get to hopefully soon ill program them into my kenwood NX-300 and put it in carrier squelch mode to see weather it's conventional or not with NXDN conventional you can program it without knowing the ran and listen in CSQ mode unlike motoTRBO

Sevier Co Encrypted?

The agencies in Sevier County that went to NXDN - are they encrypted? Or can they be monitored with DSD?

Thanks!

They are not encrypted, they are running on an Nexedge trunk system owned by Land Air communications. Use DSD plus (NXDN 4800) and search between 454.0125 & 454.6625 with a 6.25 Khz step.

Only Pigeon Forge & Gatlinburg Fire Depts are on the Nexedge trunking all others are on the LTR system or on a conventional analog channel.

Gatlinburg...

Gatlinburg Fire - are they on Nexedge on their old analog freqs?

Gatlinburg Police - are they on the LTR(s)? Here in downtown Gatlinburg, 8th floor, outdoor antenna I am not hearing any of the LTRs in the area.

The only Nexedge I'm getting is (I think) Sevierville PD on 460.075 (based on the addresses they are dispatching to). They are using mostly units numbers in the 300s.

Doesn't Gatlinburg use unit numbers in the 600s?

I am getting a data signal on 453.975 (listed as Gatlinburg DOT) but dsd+ doesn't decode anything from it.

Searched 454.0125 - 454.6625 as someone suggested - got steady data signal but never saw any voice decoded by dsd+.

Some of the freqs listed as Nexedge in the database are broadcasting in analog. Everything is definitely confusing, but I would really like to be able to hear Gatlinburg PD & FD while I'm here if someone can provide specifics.

Thanks!

You need UniTrunker to track trunked systems.

Gatlinburg

Using a PSR-500 to listen for the LTRs - has been OK on LTRs in the past...

Using an AOR AR8200 discriminator tap to listen to the Nexedge.

They are NXDN,
Gatlinburg Police - are they on the LTR(s)?
No, they are NXDN also. Just not sure yet where they are located

That is Sevierville PD you are hearing, they are using NXDN 9600 baud on their own freq.
The NXDN Trunk system is using NXDN 4800 baud
Doesn't Gatlinburg use unit numbers in the 600s?
No they are 500 units

Confusing, yes. Locals are still trying to figure things out. The Gatlinburg Fire are using the trunk system, you just need to search the frequency area you already know. If you hear the control data, you need to lock that out and continue searching that range of freqs. The control channel changes daily so you will need to lock out the control channels the next day and unlock the ones you done the previous day.
Some of the freqs listed as Nexedge in the database are broadcasting in analog.
Probably because everyone is in a transition from analog to going digital, just takes time so some are listed as both.

Yes, Sevier County, and the TN DHS D7 areas are kind of confusing, as they are in transitional flux of analog conventional, LTR, NXDN conventional, NexEDGE TRS, and at least a couple of agencies even going to the TACN.... It makes for a sometimes fun challenge to see what works to hear what, and what you might as well bang your head against a wall on... :D At least there isn't also a bunch of DMR thrown into the mix to really confuse us all.

Anyone ever figure out what frequencies Gatlinburg PD & FD went to? Never did hear any NEXEDGE (or analog) on their old frequencies in February.

Thanks!

They are NXDN trunking, you have to search 454.0125 MHz and 454.6625 MHz to hear the trunk system. Gatlinburg was always quiet, even when they were analog. You could go 30 minutes in between police transmissions, and with the fire department they will only be heard when they are out on a call which could be days apart. You can hear the ambulance service dispatched out of the Gatlinburg stations much more often.

Am I correct that NXDN & NEXEDGE are the same thing? I know (or think I know) the product can be used as a standard repeater setup or trunking, but should you be able to monitor both using DSD+

Yes. NEXEDGE is Kenwoods trade name for NXDN.

Sevier co. rescue squad

Thanks for the update members been gone awhile hoping too get back into things. I see where rules have changed so if I am doing this wrong please let me know and I sure hope I'm not hijacking a thread. I did not see anything on the Sevier Co. Rescue Squad I was hoping for. A member came by collecting funds as they do every year and said it was going for the radio upgrade and switching over to the new system. Did not know much, said they have a meeting coming up and would know more then. Did not help me any for I listen to them a lot. Hoping they don't go silent like some has already. Hoping someone will shed some light here. Thanks
