Hey Group,

I had one of my best days as a "Scanist" how about "Scanista" I was at Pioneer square and they had two coordinated drug bust at the same time. I was suprised by the number of unmarked vehicles they used. Clue: look inside the cars for keys they are single keys on a plastic fob like a rental. The undercover even had dent and one had a headlight out. I thought that was illegal?

As far as the phase noise... that was I, Bill who hears that in Bellevue. It is constant here. you probably get it worse at your location at night because of atmospheric conditions possibly Tropo-ducting or a slight difference in the speed of the RF caused by absorbtion (ie rain, fog) at night.

I was also Downtown when they had the police shooting (Monday mar.10) at Pike place. I heard alot of good SPD comms. like "Don't make any comments on the air" "Wait for the PIO (public information officer" "Keep the subject away from the media" "Try to get him out of the hospital ASAP and into the jail. Do not let him talk to anyone". There were three news helicopters overhead.

I don't think I violated part 97 by notig what they said. I am not using this information to further any criminal activites
 .

I think it was Mike KC7PSX who said they were using ID Tracker.

Do you have a Link or a website for that it sounds interesting?

ID Tracker is just a little freeware thingy (that does basically the same as ARC-205 Pros' module does) that logs tracked IDs and such. It uses =all= text files, so you can edit and modify its' setups directly (which i was doing this morning)

bellsouthpwp.net/k/d/kd5eis/IDTracker/IDTracker.htm

you DOG you!!! I'm soooo jealous!

I happened to be making a particulary scrumptious homemade pizza when they busted the robber from the Northend.... crap, i shoulda left it on RECORD mode ;)

(part 97? you mean the one that made ALL communications open to the public, but made =divulging= such comms a crime? Funny, it also prohibits scrambling and encryption ;))

Anywho, I KEEP hearing 59920 and now 21140. 59920 has a "Nextel Radio Check" female voice coming more and more frequently - 21140 just had a quickie radio check come up

I read that the 785 has a bug where it misidentifies when in search mode across banks, but both of these come up even when locked on one bank

Mayhap something to do with the new SW precinct?

I wish the guy at BuTel would hurry up with my s/w :)

Hello King County Scannerites :)

This is Steve in Bellevue (Overlake area)

Bill, I live close to you. (I need some help)

I am new to the hobby.

I bought my Pro 95 about three weeks ago. I have had no problems programming the nontrunked frequencies. The Pro 95 has great clarity and its processing speed is blinding.

I get a kick out of the WA State Patrol freq. here in Bellevue. One night here not to long ago they must have had close to 10 cars pulled over on 520. :)

I did program one channel in bank 2 at 800 MHz. I entered the freq., made sure it was on MOT, but things are just not working out. When I was done I pushed scan and it went back to bank #1 where all my conventional frequencies are located, and it started scanning there.

Questions:

1. What is the MARS freq. #?

2. We don't need to program a fleet map? Since most all use type II MOT correct?

3. Can we program a trunked channel by just entering the ID # only?

4. What is the difference between a talk group ID bank and bank #1 where I currently hold all my conventional frequencies?

5. Do conventional frequencies come in more clearer than trunked frequencies?

Who ever wrote the Pro 95 manual did a poor job. OH Well...

Bill, I might have to call you in the near future to get some advanced help. Would this be ok?

Thanks for the help!

Steve:

I'm not a 95 user, I started trunking on the 2052, but the systems in KC are mostly Motorola Type II, if you're in Bellevue, any one of several control channels (even Columbia, right over my head ;) should do the trick

LOTS of info for the 95 on the 'Net, Steve, detailed step-by-step stuff, it's a popular scanner ;)

Unlike MY poor first choice of the 2052...

ITAC

Heya Bill (and all !)

I see you have ITAC programmed, I see ITAC numbers come up on my radios' display, but when it stops on the ITAC talkgroups, all I hear is static

Is ITAC car-to-car or caller-to-caller, or does it have some kind of encrypted mode?

Oh, and the warehouse fire on 4th was a BLAST to monitor, the women running Command and Company C really outdid themselves, very alert and safety concious

Funny tho, how the news media reported they had firefighters in the bldg... 45 minutes after command reported their final evac rollcall!!

:D

Welcome to the group Stevescan..Hey Mike and Ryan,

I have been out of town for the weekend.
1) To answer some of you questions Steve MARS is the Mutual Aid Radio System. It is used to coordinate activities between diffrent law enforcement agencys who use different systems. It began as a simplex frequency but these days all the Motorola Trunked systems can be easily trunked into it as necessary.

2) All the systems public service systems around use Motorola type ii or slight variations. you do not need to program in fleet maps

3) You can program in trunk ID #'s into your scan list as long as you already have the appropriate control channels in the same bank.

4) I can answer this one better when I have more time.

5)conventional channels do not come in any clearer than trunked. what you are probably refering to is the "phase noise" that we get here in Bellevue. The rushing noise is caused by your receiver receiving more than one transmitter at a time.

If you would like email me at N6ZEU@aol.com and we can exchange Phone numbers to get into more detail on the Pro-95 and other subjects.

DISCLAIMER: I have only been trunk scanning for about 6 weeks myself so use anything I post with extreme caution.;)

Quick post,

I am glad someone else has noticed how the news media tries to slow dow the clock to claim they are live on the scene. I have heard of numerous police and fire actions being completly over only to see our local news stations say the have a live breaking story in progress:mad:

ITAC: I belive that the static you are hearing on ITAC is digital scrambling. The MDT's transmit in data packets with breaks. the static like tranmissions are most likley DES (digital encryption) KCPD has four DES channels in it's arsenal now.

Cool picture Mike, I gotta get one

heheh...

Thanx, Bll, I scanned that one in from Fabulous Furry Freak Bros issue #1 :D

Yeah, I kinda figured my reception isues related to something outside the radio, since it had to do with the time of day I was listening...

Los Angeles was funny that way, we had tropo from Hell (yes, Uppercase Hell :) ) receiving Tijuana better'n stations only 5 miles away (we were behind a mountain) but Tropo here seems reserved for the Victoria-Seattle path

Encrypted comms would've kept LAPD outta trouble too... especially the Rampart Division ;)

I thought ITAC would've been just unencrypted car-to-car stuff

I'm in the process of determining what exactly TG 59920 is... I'll probably upload a .WAV or MP3 of what I hear, see if anyone can make sense of it

Not to burst your buble, Steve, but those =are= trunked freqs, off the EPSCA towers. You'd receive those better'n the stuff off columbia tower I'd imagine, but if you're scanning them conventional, you are surely missing most of the action

Seattle PD hasn't used conventional comms of any sort for years, is why they couldn't figure out that their car was stolen by that kid, no direct car-to-car freq

I think the control channel for Eastside is 868.425, works okay here in Seattle, but noisier than CT. EVERYTHING gets rebroadcast all across KC, so Seattle can hear Renton as well as Bellevue anc Mercer ;)

KC7PSX,

Over here in Bellevue I can't pick up the downtown Seattle Police Dept. trunked frequencies very well. Both Bill and myself get alot of that phase noise over here on the Eastside.

So what I have done is... I have placed 6 SPD conventional frequencies in a bank by themselves. Then I just scan these 6 frequencies. The SPD conventional frequencies come in loud and clear over here! While the trunked SPD frequencies contain alot of that phase noise. Go figure???

Anyway, problem solved. :)

ITAC, ValleyComm and phase noise

Okay, NOW I get it :)

After programming in ValleyComm and initially hearing pretty much an echo of Columbia Tower, the differences fianlly started to appear...

ValleyComm has no Sea Center simulcast, f'r instance, whereas I don't hear Algona-Pac off Columbia Tower either...

But the kewlest thing was finally receiving ITAC calls! not much to hear, really, but I recall articles and discussions not too long ago about how ITAC could "never" be tracked by analog scanners ;)

And =now= I understand whatcha all mean by phase noise. Simulcasts of some stuff off Columbia occasionally has it, but ValleyComm almost exclusively to the Bellevue/Kirkland radios

all-in-all, much more phun than any of my other radios, reminds me of my early days on a Transoceanic :)

Anyone else recall a time when we "couldn't" scan trunked?

Oh, BTW, how or where do we add our "guesstimation" of a TGs' usage? 59920 would appear to be a radio-net for techs or tower maintenance crews, much more frequent testing since the war started...

Hey everyone. I'm back. College is over for now and doesn't have to go back until April 7th.

Does anyone have a NONE trunked freg. for Seattle PD? Maybe north Seattle? The scanner that is in my car is a none trunked radio.

Thanks for your help. I would try to help you guys out with some of this stuff, but I'm new with these things and don't know much about them...yet.:D

Ryan,

Go to my post above. Those are all nontrunked frequencies that I have posted. Five of them are SPD frequencies. Most of them are police frequencies also.

OK scan fans here is my WSP frequency list as I have it so far.

All of them are conventional frequencies.

Just stick them all in one bank and you should be off and running.

The frequencies that have three stars *** next to them are the ones that I can pick up here in Bellevue with the Pro-95.

Happy Scanning :)

Thanks for the feqs, Steve. I tried them out on my mobile scanner, but looks like they won't work.:( The scanner does not have number buttons, just two arrows with one that points up and the other points down. The numbers don't show any 8 numbers when playing with the arrows. This is what it looks like
http://www.falkenthal.com/forsale/scanner.html Except mine doesn't have the little ALERT light and STATE button. I don't think the NEWS button either.

Still Here !

Hello fellow Trunkheads........

Bruce here, I have been out of touch for a week or so. My dsl modem took a dump, and they ( Verizon ) gave me a complimentary dial-up account while they take forever to straiten it all out . This seems very slow after having dsl for three plus years!
I am very distracted with the Iraq thing. My son is a Marine reservist, and is attached to 1st 4th Marines somewhere south of Baghdad! MSNBC has Bob Arnot embedded with the Marines 1st, so when I am not at work there are 5 TV's in my house monitoring this channel, little food and less sleep!!!
Sorry to post stuff off subject, but just need to let you all know that I have not forgotten all the great Trunkheads or the subject of this board .
There has been some action in my Hood , the Shoreline Police shot and killed a gun waving nut in the Police station parking lot about ten blocks from my house !! I will monitor and try to keep in touch with this board , sorry again about straying off the subject of this board .

Later Bruce..............

Bruce, I hope your son will return home safely. One of my best friends might be deployed soon...but not sure yet. Hopefuly not.

I remember about that shooting in Shoreline. Not long after I heard it, I went to the location to check it out that same day. I also went to that used car dealership in Edmounds that was selling salvaged titiled cars to customers without telling them about the titiles.
