"Shuffle Band Plan"

Since there is already one Motorola system that is planning on using the "Shuffle Band Plan" option when they complete their rebanding/reconfiguration, and since there is now information on what that means, should there not be a flag in the database to identify those systems?

King County. I am sure there are others. And I believe there is at least one system that is already using shuffle band plan, I just don't know which one or where.

Shuffle band plan is not part of the P25 standards. If implemented, it would make the system NON-P25 compliant, which would jeopardize any federal funding for system upgrades. Federal funding is only available for P25 COMPLIANT systems and upgrades.

Given how much this is worth, I would be rather surprised if the agency were to actually choose to go with this non-compliant option.

King County is a Mot II system with 3 major Simulcast Zones and several Intellipeaters. They plan to add shuffling when they re-band in a year or so. We only presume they will switch it on at that time.

Looks like UPMAN needs to check his dictionary. I don't think "shuffled" means "inverted".

If "shuffled" refers to Motorola's patented method of altering the frequency-to-channel relationships, it's most certainly the same as "inverted". Essentially, the voice frequency is based on "Y - X" instead of "X - Y".

I think it's better to react once it happens. Having a rebanded flag is one thing since it's something that's occurring nationwide; this on the other hand is just a frivolous change a sysadmin makes. I doubt there will be that many systems utilizing it.

Then it's Motorola that needs a new dictionary, not UPMan. Mot uses the word "shuffle" to describe the band plans, when the channel assignments are really "inverted". According to their US patent #7546085, all they did was invert ("1 a : to reverse in position, order, or relationship") the frequency assignments for channels 0-759.

We here in ILL have a county that is supposedly going the "shuffle" route when rebanded in a month or so as i wrote in another thread in the Motorloa column....I read in one of Upmans threads that on a Uniden digital scanner you just select "-" polarity instead of positive when putting in the "custom rebanding specs....Now on my RS/GRE products i do not see the polarity setting in the rebanding settings doing it by hand....Any thoughts??
