• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hey everyone.... I've owned a G5 for about 2 years now, and only had it programmed for one system (Beaufort SC) in which it worked very well! Circumstances forced a return to Maryland, and now for the life of me I can't get it to pick up Frederick County or anything else, for that matter. I'm really confused, since I want to scan multiple systems (I know I can only do one at a time based on the switch position...or I think I do LOL). I get 'out of range' for Frederick County (I am in the 21791 zip area). Is there a simple programming manual for this thing, like there used to be for some of the other trunking scanners? Or am I just better off sending it out and paying money for someone smarter than me to program the damn thing? (I'm loathe to do that!). I work in Baltimore City and would like to listen there as well.... Maybe old dawgs can't learn new tricks. I miss my old Bearcat crystal unit!

Did you import all the frequencies and talk groups from here or input them manually? Also, just checking, is the system (P25 trunking) that is set in each zone/channel knob assignment the system you are trying to reach? I have made the mistake of not changing the system from the default before so that came to mind.

Common things to check
Primary and alternate CC channels are programmed in.
the correct system ID is set
the correct RFSS and Site ID are set. Remember they are in hex.
Post a link to the system you are trying to monitor.

The latest version of PPS allows you to import directly from Radio Reference and assign it to a knob position on import. Believe you do need to be a premium member of RR for it.

OK, I'm dumb, what's PPS? I did check the RR site for downloading, didn't see anything for the unication though.

Well, the good news is I found I needed a software upgrade. I'm now in the process of (since I did the upgrade I found it) installing the Radio Reference import... I'm guessing that this is a huge file so it will take time LOL. Thanks for all the patience and help!

Thanks, everyone for ALL your assistance. Well, when I got home the unication wouldn't pick up my home county (the out of range) and with all the other issues this thing has given me, I've decided to sell it. Posted on fleabay today!
