So from what i can garner the 325P2 is not designed for simulcast reception. I think thats a little crazy for a 400.00 scanner but here we are. It like like ill be dissecting the stock antenna and replacing with whatever they used and replace it with a paper clip. The paper clip is clearly superior to the stock antenna. Clears up about 95% of the distortion issues. Crazy i know.

Simulcast distortion is multipath. 2 or more transmitter sites, all transmitting on the same frequency, hitting your antenna at slightly different times.

Solved a number of ways.
1. weaken the signal which it sounds like you did.
2. Directional antenna - 'aim' at only one site
3. Get an SD radio (SDS100/200)

The problem with attenuating the signal is that doing so negatively impacts reception for everything else you want to hear. You're pretty much limiting yourself to monitoring a single site on a single system. And like every other simulcast antenna kludge, it's not a practical solution for mobile use. A SDS scanner allows you to scan multiple systems, either at a fixed location or mobile.

Back 6 years ago when the 325 scanner came out LSM Simulcast was not as huge yet and the issues we not as prevalent..
Now with Trunked LSM and TDMA the delay spread of the LSM messes up the older (BCD325P2, BCD996P2, TRX-1/2) scanners and TDMA is a little more "Digital" sounding, and does not help
i use a BCD325P2 & a BCD996P2 and use the attenuator and different antennas to get good P25 performance out of the old girls....For great Trunking performance I use a Unication G5

As long as I’ve been listening to trunked systems I’ve never experienced simulcast distortion... guess I’m just fortunate. I think there is still confusion as to determining if simulcast is the problem or it’s something else. There have been reports from people with issues with multi-site trunked systems that were not related to simulcast yet blamed on simulcast. I have forgotten what those types of systems are called, hopefully someone here can refresh my memory. What I DO experience is a delay when receiving the same signal on two separate scanners. There are times I will forget to turn off my SDS100 portable when I jump in the truck and turn on my SDS200. I’ve noticed varying amounts of delay from hardly noticeable to the time it takes to pronounce a multi-syllable word. I’ve discounted the antennas used on each radio as the cause of the problem because I’ve been told simulcast is a matter of distance (it takes the signal longer to travel a greater distance) between the multiple sites heard and the receiver but both my receivers are but a yard separated. In my case, the SDS200 has the better antenna, a mobile gain antenna, but both the 100 and 200 hear the transmission clearly, and since the difference in distance between the xmit site and both receivers is so slight (about 1 yard) I shouldn’t be hearing one signal delayed, creating an echo, but I do. I thought I was receiving the same transmission from the same site. But the only logical explanation I can imagine is that the two scanners are receiving the same transmission but from different sites. So I get this delay. It’s not distorted like some of the descriptions I’ve read regarding simulcast... the transmissions are all loud and clear, just separated by a delay which creates an echo of sorts.

We now can do a 20dB attenuator setting individually for each site but it might be too coarse or not enough to to any good. Perhaps an additional variable 1-20dB attenuator in line with the antenna could make it more useful for fighting simulcast with the older type of scanners without totally killing the rest of the systems that the scanner are set to monitor.
