• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Intro video by retailer of QT60 (same besides name as Q5) with how he sets them up.

Discussion starting at 12:50 re Clarity.

“Power” is all well & good, but clarity defines being heard.

There are levels of “distortion” among the radio systems and operating conditions. Subject layers, connected. A general theme.

Call it noise or what-have-you what we need is that words come thru fully and distinctly at the TX end.

This can be measured. “Seen”.

The fixes to other system components are much easier, thenceforth, given clarity is the goal.

To Hear, . . . and to Get Heard.

In “getting closer” (max signal capture while working with DX):

On AT5555-N2 radio (or QT60) have found that NRC RX 3 still winds up best overall, but now use Hi-Cut during the daylight hours and not once it’s dark. (ANL & NB also engaged while in this Freightliner).

Most of what’s desirable is to be able to monitor 12-14/hours without undue aggravation. Audio quality emphasized, not speaking of content; ironically even the worst content is easier to ignore over its span by this focus.

Pre-dawn (greatest local activity) the use of daytime DX as foil has paid off handsomely in performance when Skip is not in play.

Once one has weaned away ones irritability, small audio changes play a beneficial role. The repetitive daily stupidity becomes old hat and is no longer as much of a bar to what’s going on around one.

Have been on the northern Great Plains the past couple of days with maybe a couple more to come. More users than in the South is the impression.

The worst base station offenders are along the southern tier of the USA. SoCal, AZ, NM, OK, and FL & NC.

PA and IL have a couple, but I don’t seem to hear them often.

This is seven-days/week. Same buttwipes.

A vid about two antennas and SNR change.

The audio is such it represents the difference between an NRC radio plus other abatements applied as per this thread in mobile.

The Yagi is close, but not actually noisy enough (your Cobra 29 with a cheap mag-mount) as it’s a better set of ears than a mobile.

Ones radio system flat comes alive when heavy Skip is gone given work done.

Love your enemy.

Trucks are difficult, plus $$$$ (about $600 as shown).

Your personal vehicle nowhere near as much.

I’m down to the last couple of daylight hours being overpowering.

This doesn’t stop local comms with other drivers who’ve made some efforts.

— Part of the solution is that men relay messages over distances.

Be capable of same.
