Well, the new 436 is on its way! Looking ahead, does any existing software have the ability to download files from the RR.com database? Looks like FreeScan isn't going to include 436/536. The new radio is due here tomorrow!

The radio's native software downloads the entire RR database (US and Canada anyway) from a Uniden server. While it doesn't load directly from RR, it's about as close as you can get. Uniden has a process that grabs the RR database on a weekly basis, translates into the correct format for your scanner and uploads it to that server. The most you should need to wait for any updates is about a week, although using the software, you can enter the changes manually if you can't wait that short time period. The up side, is the updates are available you to download even if you don't have a RR premium membership.

The Sentinel software has basically the same info. Its sort of spooky in that you havae the entired US. You just say what zip code you want and the radio does the rest. In fact you can download the Software and review the database right now. Pretty handy.
