I have a few questions.
I have SDRtrunk running with 2 dongles. It works great.
I bought another, I was trying to use it on a phase 2 TRS by it self and only monitor 6 TG's, I get it tracking everything but no sound out or recordings.
I tried CC only and CC and Alt CCs and still nothing. I switched the setting to single tuner. Is it that I need a second dongle since its phase 2 no matter what?

Is there software that I can use that the single dongle will get conventional channels and scan through then like a scanner would?
Something that will show who is talking with a screen and hold and avoid buttons and I can download the info from RR?
Thanks

So you're looking to monitor two trunked systems simultaneously?

Is it that I need a second dongle since its phase 2 no matter what?
Can't say for sure with no specifics on said system(s), please post RRDB link(s). Also what model dongles are you running? Dongles don't care if a system is Phase-II, you'll need to focus on usable frequency bandwidth which is typically 2.4MHz for an RTL-SDR so if the frequency spread of said system is greater than that which one dongle can handle then you'll need a 2nd dongle to account for the difference

Is there software that I can use that the single dongle will get conventional channels and scan through then like a scanner would?
Again, need to know what model dongles you're running. A few titles that come to mind: SDR#, SDR++, SDRUno (for the SDRPlay RSP series). However they're quite clunky, definitely not as smooth as a scanner radio would be

Sorry for the lack of info.

I am trying to monitor 1 system with 1 dongle .

I'm using a RTL-SDR V4 Quickstart

This is the system I'm trying to monitor with one dongle, the County Simulcast with about 6 TG's. I tried with 1 CC and with 1 CC and the 3 Alt CCs. With no luck.

I wanted to scan a few DMR conventional channels and a few analog conventional channels for a feed I provide so I can free up an expensive scanner for me to use in my truck, I would buy another RTL-SDR if this one works.

So as I mentioned in post #2, the usable frequency spectrum on this RTL-SDR is 2.4MHz. If the lowest frequency and highest frequency on the TRS you're trying to monitor are greater than 2.4MHz apart then you'll need an additional dongle

To answer your question, we need to know the EXACT system & site not a general description of how many TGs and CCs. If you want any help, provide a link from RR DB.
My bad, I copied the link and never pasted it. Sorry.

The “county simulcast” site will require 3 rtl-sdr dongles (or any with 2.4MHz of coverage). The “Jackson township” site would require two dongles but are within the spectrum of the other site so 3 dongles will cover both sites at same time.
I was successful using 2 for the County sim, at least I thought it was good. Maye I was missing some. Will SDRtrunk work with 3? I know I saw where it an be 1 or 2 receivers.

I run 7 sdr's on SDRTrunk at the same time with no problems. It handles conventional, P25, and the local electric company on DMR with no problems. Monitoring 7 surrounding counties and sending to 3 feeds all at the same time. I also use a powered usb hub for the sdr's.

Two of the sdr's handle control channels, 1 handles 12 conventional channels, 1 handles the DMR system, and three are free to receive what frequencies the control channels call for. All in one instance of SDRT.

Ok, thank you for that info.
Next I have to see if there is software that will scan a few DMR conventional channels and a few analog conventional channels with the one dongle for a feed I provide so I can free up an expensive scanner for me to use in my truck.
I am not 100% sure on your question, but have a look here and see if it addresses your situati9n:

it will do lots more than just air traffic control.
