Did you actually look at the application? It's the same 2 frequencies listed multiple times, not "10 new frequencies". They were licensed for 6 frequencies, and are now licensed for 8, at all 11 sites of the 700 MHz simulcast cell.

Obviously not fully, my mistake but thats what this is here for right? It's still a sign that they are starting to get things ready for the shift off the UHF/Phase 1 side.

Either way a transition to all 700 on the fire side will be great, will make it much easier for my dept to just change a channel to talk to our neighboring (but out of county towns) since we are on a 700 system and not need to carry a separate radio for somerset county

Somerset County could easily allow your 700 MHz radios to access their fire talkgroups. The ASTRO 25 system doesn't care what band you're on, it all goes through the same zone controller and master site. They could be on 500 MHz and you on 700 MHz operating on the same talkgroups, and it's 100% transparently seamless. Neither of you would have a clue that you're on a different band. Of course, they'd have to provision the fire talkgroups on the 700 cell first, which it sounds like they have not done. But it is a very change in the system to accomplish.

Somerset County has done that, but only for a very few. They continue to add new frequencies to sites including a few 800 frees. It was and has been about bonks. They even offloaded roads and transportation and pay the State sub fees to use the NJICS. This all began with an infamous memo in preparation for a major storm that said the system may not be available and don’t use the system, you must use your old legacy systems. Anyway as far as I can tell OEM has been granted dual system access, North Plainfield PD is almost always on 700 unless a sub roams west into the 500 site in Greenbrook. I vaguely recall a few Hillsborough Fire units on both. You can hear (and see) it if you know what to listen for.

The database does not show any 800 megahertz frequencies for the Somerset County system. Are you saying there are currently 800 megahertz frequencies in use and if so what are they? And should the database be corrected?

No, they are not in use yet. It will be at least a year or two before either the two 800 MHz or the two new 700 MHz frequencies will be in use with the 700/800 MHz cell.

Search the YE licenses for the county, there is no mystery to them.

I do not think so...two new frequencies at 7 locations. 14 line items or so, each with different sites. So to recap this long wandering thread 2 new 800 frequencies and two new 700 frequencies will when deployed add some additional capacity. Way to much confusion, maybe close this thread. Whew.

So just to clarify, as far as fire departments go, all traffic is on the UHF side and not the 700 side, correct? And if so, does anyone know if there are any future plans for any fire departments to change to 700 or not? Thanks

Fire and EMS is on UHF side, yes. However at times that same traffic might appear on both if perhaps an OEM unit affiliated with the 700 system.

You will catch all Fire & EMS & OEM traffic on the UHF side so you only need to monitor the UHF system.
