This is something that I just noticed begining in March of this year. Something on 453.475 is pulsing transmit constantly every 2 seconds or so. You can hear it once you get north of Madison/ Guilford and all through middletown etc. It is very stong and will blow right over the legitimate Madison PD transmissions. Once your in Madison / Guilford, the hills seem to block it. You need to get past the hills in Durham for it to come in on a mobile.

Does anyone know what this is? The only 453.475 licenses in CT are Madison and Windsor. I know it isn't Madison and it couldn't be Windsor.

REPLY--453.475

Yonkers, NY Police are on this digital frequency, but doubt you would be receiving it that far up yonder. Are also on 453.275 and 453.925.

And what ever became of the serious problems with Stamford's radio system?

Thank You.

The Yonkers digital system was the motivation to get all PL capable radios. It doesn't come in everywhere on a mobile but it drives the bases nuts.

Madison is too far from Windsor for that to be it. Once you hit the 17/79 split (even Middletown Route 9) UHF signals from that area are basically blocked by the hills.

Windsor vs. madison

pjh:
I gotta respectfully disagree... There is a phenomenon down here on the shore, where Windsor is loud in Madison, Canton is loud down here in Guilford... sometimes as lound as the local units... For example there are parts of Madison & Guilford where you cannot hear New Haven PD, but Springfield comes in rather well. (460MHz)

of course, there is some interference from NYC, but it usually isnt as bad as Windsor and Canton. The LTR system that is up in the Windsor area is barreling down into 453.475 on the shore... I guess it would seeing it is 500w erp at a good elevation. I know its blasting over my business band 452 MHz system.

thank goodness for PL !

good listening !!!

Weird. My wife is from Madison, and I took countless trips down there (and still do) and I never noticed it. As soon as I went up the Rt79 hill from 17, everything dropped right off...including lowband from my FD.

Must be one of those strange things...considering WFD and WEMS doesn't come in all that well up at the state line anymore after their upgrade.

Next time I am down there (Monday I think), I'll have to throw Windsor back into the scan list.

PJ, It was the damndest thing. It used to always drop out aroudn the hills in Durham and middlefield for me as well. I used to take the backroads from South District and up over the hill on Blue Hills to Durham. it would disappear as soon as I crested that hill.

But as soon as that LTR thing went online, it magically started making it a LOT further. I can pick it up on a mobile a lot more in various parts of the shoreline now. The receivers that are up on the hills or on towers can sure as hell hear it and it is really annoying. We just rely on the MPD units being a lot stronger to squash it.

There was a point in the begining of July where it seemed the UHF band conditions were letting stuff go a LOT further than normal. MPD actually had to change towers depending on who they were trying to talk to because the Windsor and Yonkers crap was making communications almost impossible.

PJH... when you are down around GFD/MAD, give a shout on the 449.475 repater (110.9) or the 927.4875 machine (dpl 311).

We can get together and have coffee, and stick Matt with the tab!!!!!

Faaaaaaar Out !

As an update, Windsor is no longer LTR for the moment. Due to several safety issues, they went back to conventional. No time frame for the switchover back to LTR, if ever.

That pulsing is either still there or turned back on. I heard it yesterday. That Icom and it's .07uV sensitivity could hear a mouse pass gass in Nevada.

Do you have any idea how annoying it is listening to Madison PD with that stupid thing going in the background? It is like someone is sitting outside the truck on direct deadkeying a mic on direct every 2 seconds. Hell, my deaf CDM picks it up!!

453.475 LTR idle pulses.

No no Matt, its not just annoying... its called DESTRUCTIVE INTERFERENCE

Whomever managed to get an LTR coordinated on a police channel... well...

If I was hizzoner the 1st Selectman, (and Jake), I would raise holy hell with the licensee as well as scream to the FCC that a very underused LTR is causing destructive interference to a public safety system.

Let the licensee answer that one...

ask me how I REALLY feel about those stupid LTR systems that appear to be nothing more than an ego booster for some licensees.

Oh by the way... I'm back... but you knew that...!!!!

war is hell...

Well, when you take into account which esteemed dealer pushed for and installed that save-the-world system, it is understandable. Idiots.
