WCBS 880AM has transitioned to all sports after almost six decades as the main source of news, sports and weather for the NY Metro area. As a very long-time listener, it'll be missed greatly. Surely many DX'ers will feel the same too.
I first logged WCBS-AM in the late 1950's using a "Rocket" crystal radio (God bless you Mom for buying it for me) attached to our basement cold water meter. That's the only station I could receive and the Jack Sterling show was a daily staple in the broadcast day lineup. This was way before it became an all news station.
Attached is a replica of a Rocket radio purchased at a hamfest years ago. Many of us used these in our larval stages of the hobby. Crystal radios came in all shapes and sizes back then and were commonly advertised in magazines and comic books.
