Much better to my ear. Pretty similar to Pro-96.

Sounds just like the PRO-96 on digital. My favorite feature so far: in TUNE mode, enter a frequency and the scanner will instantly tell you the mode of transmission, either AM, FM, LTR, Digital, etc. Then if it is a conventional channel it will instantly tell you the CTCSS, DCS or NAC tone code. One quick thing on LTR, it will display the home channel on a LTR transmission blip. That is really cool. Makes decoding an LTR system faster.

Did you see the new feature related to LTR on page 65 of the manual?

LTR Home Repeater AutoMove:

When AutoMove HRs is turned on, you may enter the LTR
system frequencies in any order, and the PSR-500 will
automatically move the frequencies to the proper home repeater
slots as transmissions are received on the system.
