• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

My G5 is about 6 months old and have done zero upgrades, etc. I live in a fringe area and it has, until recently, received where no Bearcat could. In my house I must have it connected to an outdoor antenna. Now all of a sudden I am getting out of range alerts, Darth Vader sounds, and almost zero reception while showing three bars.

Not sure what the problem is......suggestions?

Thanks

Need more info -

What system(s) are you seeing this on?

Has anything intentionally changed on those systems (i.e. more/new encrypted talkgroups)? Are you hearing encryption?

It's possible that the system has undergone some (tuning type) adjustments....

How far are you from the system you are monitoring? It sounds like quite a distance given the exterior antenna and signal level.

You can expect some seasonal changes (we hear about leaves on trees in the spring/summer and no leaves in the fall/winter affecting systems).

I recently experienced what sounded like encryption on a system in Florida. I was using a RS 800Mhz antenna and I was about a full county away. When I got closer, the signal was greatly improved.

Is there a reason why you have not updated your firmware? There have been some improvements (I'm on my 4th firmware update since my first Unication almost a year ago).

My belief is that the Unication is great on simulcast systems but it isn't something I'd buy for non-simulcast (except maybe possibly for that "distant receiving" capability). Is the system in question simulcast or non-simulcast?

I'm monitor two (non-simulcast) sites of NC VIPER daily. The G5 regularly goes out of range when monitoring from inside my house... I don't blame the Unication for that - I blame the signal from the VIPER towers (I don't believe the system is designed for in building coverage and I am about as far away from the towers as you can get). Sometimes, I can receive adjacent county simulcast systems better than my local system/sites.

I do not believe anything changed. The G5 works great closer in town
Look up JEB Fort Story. I am located by the east gate
Leaves may be an issue, and I cannot get above them
Firmware was not updated only because "it was not broke, don't mess with it" philosophy

Now I have placed it by a window with a RS 800 antenna and it is working perfect, but showing 1 bar.
Looks to be pointing to an antenna issue, but marine and Eastern Shore fire is coming in great.

Yeah - you don't seem to be all that far from the ORION VB site... doesn't seem like reception should be that hard.... this next leads me to questions about your profile.... can you export a copy and post it (or send me a copy via email)?
