Is South Plainfield EMS now fulltime paid? Have been listening for a few weeks now and have heard nothing but 8alpha1 alpha2 etc calling in service when calls are dispatched?

As far as I'm aware, nothing has changed. Contract paid service 7a-7p, South Plainfield EMS otherwise.

The code your hearing 8alpha1 is a emd code. Basically tells the crew what they are responding to and the dispatchers what resources to send to the call based on severity. Alpha is the lowest severity and Echo is death or immanent death based on information the dispatchers receive

In this case, not true. Those are unit designations for RWJ MHS units, which is who the current paid contract is in South Plainfield.

Who the hell decided to make unit numbers the same as EMD codes? All I know is im not taking the unit number 9echo
Transit police have very similar unit designations. I agree that it should not be that way since it's literally identical to NAED priority dispatch codes.

8-Bravo-12 is the BLS RWJ unit covering 7A to 7P
7P to 7A the vollys come on.
The rigs are all 46 modifiers. i.e. 466 is an ambulance i believe 468 is their TSU/Rescue
Any 40 modifiers are duty officers/ crew chiefs 401 is the chief and it works its way down 402 Deputy 403 captain 404/05 are LTs. Anything 406-408 are crew chiefs.
