I’m back into scanning after YEARS of absence. I have a new SDS 100. I downloaded just the local AEP areas that I wanted to listen too but wasn’t hearing anything. Thinking maybe I had done something wrong I downloaded the entire AEP network and just put “avoid” on the areas I’m not interest in. But I’m still not hearing anything. Why am I not hearing AEP? I’m using the scanner inside the house with no external antenna and I’m receiving law, fire, etc., 15 miles away just fine.

AEP is in the process of migrating to a P25 system to replace EDACS. You may want to check out the later posts in this thread to see the current status: American Electric Power P25 WACN 92715 I understand some areas in Ohio have already switched and scanner hobbyists are being asked to document site frequencies and so forth.

I miss the days down in Florida when I was able to monitor the power company repair crews, especially after a hurricane just blew thru. So many out-of-state crews down there to help out, they operated on their own set of mutual aid frequencies. My neighbors would knock on my door to find out the where, the when, and the how long before the grid was back up. Since moving to Ohio, I have not been able to monitor any local utilities - power, gas, cable TV, or the media. I sure do miss that.
