Southern Illinois Radio Traffic

So Im located in Henderson Kentucky and have been scanning since I was a young kid. My location is pretty close to Southern Illinois and I have never heard any radio traffic from Illinois. Are the Fire Departments using the p25 system or are they still using vhf? The closet town to me would be Shawneetown, so Im interested in the counties around Shawneetown. Thanks

Public service down that way uses mostly VHF. Last time I was down that far south my scanner was just about dead. And the signals i received were very weak. Nit sure why. Very little happens down that way. And that's a good thing. State police uses 800MHz trunked system statewide but you won't hear them from your neck of the woods. State and some county road crews also use the statewide system.

Yeah in all my years of scanning I honestly dont really remember ever hearing anything from southern Illinois. But I sure could hear East St. Louis just about every morning. I sure do miss those days.
