In 2016, all South Carolina radios that
operate on an 800MHz will have to be
upgraded from analogue to digital. Hipp
said early projections show that mandate
could cost the county up to $5 million.
Hipp noted that estimate is based on all
new, top-of-the-line equipment and it is
likely to decrease substantially.

This is a huge waste of money in my opinion. I think quite a few of the smaller agencies will be switching back to their VHF and UHF channels.

It all starts as a Motorola Mandate. Then the FCC says----OK, whatever Moto wants is OK with us. So be it. Make it happen.
