Is anyone aware of a simulcast of SPEN1 in the north NJ area on either a UHF or 700/800 frequency whether it be conventional or a trunked system?

I don't think NJSP had much success if any with the fast DTMF tones with the phone numbers of the control points they programmed into the Midland SPEN bases.

Is that what those DTMF tones are at the trailing end of every keyup? I can not find any information on what those numbers are. Who controls the DTMF ID's each radio is assigned? Does anyone have any more information on this subject?

To elaborate - Morris County may put a message out on both Spen and MIRS-1 sometimes but they do not rebroadcast SPEN traffic.

I never said they patched or rebroadcasted traffic from SPEN-1. I said Morris County "simulcasts on MIRS-1 and SPEN 1 occasionally" as in the dispatcher simulselects both the SPEN-1 channel and MIRS-1 talkgroup on the console and transmits on both at the same time. Sometimes they do one then the other but that is a waste of time when you can do both at the same time.

Wayne's (UHF) TRS has a SPEN 1 and SPEN 4 patch under talkgroups 9002 and 9003, respectively. However, many people have been having trouble clearly receiving Wayne lately, and even when I received it well the SPEN patch usually sounded like the person was transmitting from the outside of a subway car. There was a constant clickety-clack-ing. YMMV.

Under the "ASTRO 25 Channel ID" tab, slot one should be 12.5kHz, + offset, 3 MHz offset, 12.5 kHz channel spacing and 471.0000 MHz Base frequency. Modulation is CQPSK, If you are going to non-affilaite scan, change the WACN to BEE00 instead of 926A5 or you'll miss tranmissions.

I apologize for the off topic.

Bumping my question. Does anyone know what the DTMF tones are? I've been wondering about them for years.

The only time I ever hear any DTMF identifier (and I don't think I have in a long time) was after SP Totowa barracks transmissions.

to actually answer not a techguy post. the dtmf was installed on bases years ago to try to prevent the operators from abusing the spen system. year's ago this was rampant, with north bergen taking the brunt of the accusations over the air. hence "knock it off north bergen". wether the dtmf tones were actually transmitting the correct identifier's is up for debate. i believe it was probably just a scare tactic.
