Anyone experiencing this: Sometimes when the radio is scanning, it stops and there is a birdie with a constant beat. The birdie stops when the radio is taken out of scan mode and the squelch closes again. This occurs both on manual squelch and auto squelch. Sometimes it can be squelched out, other times no.
I experience it mostly in the VHF/UHF air bands.

Birdies are common on synthesized radios.

If you give a model and specific frequencies, others might be able to tell you if your radio is unusually bad.

Oh no, I know they are...my BC250 has a million of them in the UHF airband...but this is something I never heard before, and it seems to go to the beat of the scanner. Real weird. I'll write down some of the frequencies and see what comes up.

Oh, and it's the Icom R20

Thanks for the quick response!

Hello,

What you hear is normal for the IC-R20 when the unit is in VFO Search Mode, and stops on a birdie or other noise. It has a sound like a turn signal of a vehicle but much lower in volume.

BINGO!! You got the sound right! :D Thanks for the response...I'll just have to keep skipping those frequencies.
