So I have a uniden bc350c I've had it for a while now my dad gave it to me and the squelch is stuck open I've seen videos of people reviewing this particular one, and they're quiet It doesn't have the squelch open Even when reseving. Sometimes it's hard to hear what the person is saying. Does anybody have any idea on how this can be fixed?

Ps Before you say get a new one, it's my dad's and I want to keep it.

If Uniden still supports it, you can always send it in for repair. Try entering a weather frequency and see if it will receive anything. 162.40 etc which ever works in your area. Regardless, without any test equipment you will need to send it in. Unless you have access to an oscilloscope, schematics and parts. Should be around $100 and you'll have your scanner working again

I realize you would rather jeep this scanner, instead of replacing it. However, Uniden no longer offers repairs for that model. The closest similar scanner, that is still supported, is the BC355N. For that model, repair cost, with return shipping, is $74.95. Plus, you'd spend something in the $10 to $15 range to ship that model in for repair. You might be able to find a replacement for that exact model on eBay. The BC355N (new) is just under $107 on Amazon.

You might contact G & G to see if they can repair it. However, their base repair charge for analog scanners is $50 plus parts plus return shipping. You might get lucky if you get a can of tuner cleaner, & see if that solves the problem.

it's hard to hear what the person is saying.
The squelch circuit uses the noise audio and detects that and when high enough it mutes the audio.
If normal audio are low when you monitor a transmission then the noise will also be low and the squelch will never have enough noise level to mute the audio.

But if normal transmission audio seems fine at a normal volume setting then it can be the squelch potentiometer at the front that are bad, and contact cleaner might help, but first I would suggest to pull that connector that goes from the main board to the front and put it back again to exercise it to get rid of any oxidation or corrosion. It's often that issues comes from bad connectors that then will be an easy fix.

When did the SQ problem happen? While using the scanner or at the time if was taken out of storage and hadn't been used for years?
The first case indicate component failure that needs to be replaced and the other case some oxidation and bad contact in some mechanical components.

Look at the bottom side of the circuit board so there isn't any patches of oxidation from damage from moisture.
