Hello to all,
I was wondering if anyone has noticed that the squelch setting of 1 on the 396 seems a little tight? I find that at the 1 setting the squelch closes up a little too soon if the signal gets too weak, resulting in a very choppy listening experience. This happens mostly when mobile (on any frequency) and especially on 800 when I'm stationary (since there's so much multipath that I contend with here). On other radios with digitally-controlled squelch that I've used, the squelch setting of 1 would allow for the signal to drop out momentarily without closing up the squelch.
Does anyone else have this issue with the 396 or is this unique to my particular unit? I've searched the forums and haven't found any discussion of this yet. If anyone has noticed it, is there any way to fix it aside from Uniden making a firmware modification?
Thanks for all of your help!
