What does everyone have their squelch on for a conv. freq? I have it just where it stops hissing but when the repeater drops out. Does it make that much more of a difference to have the squelch down all the way? Thanks

If you have the squelch set to tight, not only will you get a very nasty exaggerated squelch tail on your scanner.. but youll not scan.. just be locked on one freq..... You want to set it the first time at the point hissing stops.. then play around till you get the best setting for your location. Remember- If your in an area where there are lots of transmitters,.. you do not need a tight squelch setting.... but for rural areas with most of your listening from distant stations.. set the squelch tighter....

:D I personally miss the days of the squelch tail... (10-4 good buddy..ckrrrrrrrrrrr. I try to set my squelch setting right when the hissing sounds stops. But if after the scanner starts scanning and i get an unreadable transmission, i then move my squelch setting to where that transmission stops. I hope this helps you with your question. Ckrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
