OK, good to know, thank you for clarifying. I originally had too many sites loaded in which I think caused it to slow down the scanning. I will have to give ID Search a try, I have not used that. I feel that with this scanner, you are so limited to what you can listen to unless you program it in. I like my old BCD396 for the fact it could scan different "categories" in the default load. Since I work from home, I am going to consider getting rid of the handheld and going to a base unit.

BTW how long before all of IL moves to P2 Phase 2?

I know my phase 1 scanner still works but once all sites are on phase 2, I am assuming Phase 2 will not be able to communicate with Phase 1 once its completed?

It will be a long time. They would have to replace or reprogram every radio and all of the infrastructure to accommodate it. I know the state is not going to spend any money on radios until they absolutely have to.

The Illinois State Police recently updated their handheld radios to dual band Motoroloa APX portables. I just saw a couple of plain Ford Explorer patrol SUV’s which were sporting new antenna’s. One ISP Explorer had a Motorola APX7500 control head mounted in the console. I think ISP went to SC21 in about 2004-2005. Looks like ISP is in the process of replacing the original Motorola mobiles.

I’m not sure when ISP will migrate completely to Phase 2 but I think it will happen in the next 12 months. I suspect the individual sites will be capable of handling Phase 1 and Phase 2 for several years. Since Motorola owns the system they’ll need to support the Phase 1 radios that are still paying user fees.
