I think I emailed Starrsoft with a question before purchasing and got no response, I guess Its lack of compitition he doesnt need to mess with it you only have 2 choices for GRE RS Scanners (His Software and Scancat). I didnt like scancat at all and bought Win 97.

To Mark

Your described problem with your desktop and Laptop, both with XP can most likely be resolved with new downloads of the dll and exe files.

In my previous post I mentioned that I have Win2K, i.e. Windows 2000 not XP. I don't know if that makes a difference or not. Also wondered what you meant by new downloads of dll and exe files? I know what dll and exe files are but what are you referring to? Starrsofts program or something operating system related? I haven't paid for his program yet. Since I was having problems with his trial version I thought I'd at least try to get some thoughts from the author first before coughing up the dough. Does he possibly provide a different version that you get when you buy it vs. the version that's available on his site as a trial version? Thanks.

Mark.

Sorry for misreading your other post. Ironically, 2K is the only OS I haven't used since DOS. However, the same should apply for all 5 Windows OS's. Re-download the zip and replace the two of three files (Help file won't need to be replaced).
BTW, version 1.07 had a bug similar to your problem...you do have the latest version (1.12) don't you?

OK. I have a technical question regarding the Win97 Software. Nice program by the way. Its definately something I think is worth buying. This Don guy is ok in my book for having the 30 day trial period in the first place!

On to my technical issue... I am trying to use the web import from RR. The Win97 program hangs for close to 20 seconds and returns this error: "Internal Application Error". This occurs when using web import for both Trunked and Conventional imports.

The RR.Com XML URL is: http://www.radioreference.com/apps/xml1.1

Thanks in advance.
RS PRO97, of course
Windows XP, Alienware.

If you are using a firewall you may want to check and sure it is not blocking Win97. This is just a guess for I never have had any trouble myself for ZA asked if I wanted to allow it acess.

I just bought Win96....I know for a fact it will not work through a proxy because there's no provision in the app to pass authentication information to the proxy...

No Response From Starr

After my FOURTH email (07-29-06) to Mr. Starr I STILL have not received a response to my inquiries. I don't know about anyone else? If I did not receive a response from the author of a software program, regarding problems I was having with his TRIAL version, then I certainly would not pay for something that does not appear to work properly. Buyer Beware!!!!

I am not going to judge one way or the other; however, as was pointed out (somewhere, maybe in this thread) Don had a computer meltdown. I do know that he has not been on the RR site since June 7th. (See his profile: DonS)

It is possible that something happened to all the records and/or key information and he is still working to replace/repair/whatever. I have no direct contact with him, but I have used most products he has put out (except Win97 or Win99) so I can tell you that the products work as advertised. I am guessing since the StarrSoft Web Site is still active that it is hosted commercially and hence I would guess that anyone using the automatic functions would get good results. Getting a replacement key, or dealing with Don directly via email, snail mail or whatever seems to be a problem, but since we are not in his shoes, we really don't know what is going on out his way.

Now Mark, I use Win96, which works just like Win97, and I use Win2K on my Desktop. I have never experienced the problems you alluded to. Are you using a RS232 port on your computer or are you using a USB->Serial adapter? (This would include the RS USB programming cable.) If so, there have been COM port assignment problems in the past that may have some bearing on the upload/download problem you describe. In reference to the "delete" problem, I guess I have never bothered with it, I have always just used <Ctrl>+<X> to cut the line(s) and you get a similar type box for cutting, in any case I have never experienced what you describe.
