I heard the State of Wisconsin is planning on building a $44,000,000 trunked VHF system. Anyone know if this is true or not?

They have a few trunked sites currently on VHF-High band, and it would not surprise me if they did this as a cost-saving alternative to 800 MHz. Hopefully, they will go with Motorola P-25, rather than "ProVoice" or "OpenSky."

A salesmen at the Capital Drive Radio Shack in Milwaukee told me about the proposed trunked radio system.

Federal Engineering was hired by the state to study a statewide TRS.

The reports can be found on the State of Wisconsin website.

http://www.wisconsin.gov/state/home/

In the search box type in (trunked radio system report)

Several reports titled Statewide Needs Assessment and Plan for the Improvement of Public Safety Radio Communications will be shown.

WOW! Statewide TRS infrastructure costs would be $ 44,000,000
Subscriber units costs would be between $70,000,000 - $ 80,000,000
Gateways and IP-switching $1,000,000

The Federal Engineering's study is almost a year old so we can expect to pay millions more if the TRS ever becomes a reality.
