1200E: Five DECEE KC-135s off ADW.
1215E: Visually confirmed not to be dragging anyone yet. Bright blue clear skies make seeing acft at FL200 easy.
1221E: Last of Five (DECEE75) splitting off from FLT headed NW
1233E: DECEE75 again not dragging anyone.
1239E: Neither is DECEE74.
1242E: Same for DECEE73.
1252E: Missed 71 but DECEE72 also isn't dragging anyone.

I didn’t actually hear them on MTN Tower but I heard tower tell someone else who was landing at Martin State that there were 2x A-10s off his right at 2000 ft.
Reason I asked was, over last year or so they have ben using the VHF (123.1) instead of the UHF (254.425) freq. Don't know why? Could be it's because the UHF freq is "brolen" or they like to use the VHF freq so that the general aviation trfc can hear them as well.

I am right by Martin State and during the flight today was in the Sue Creek area monitoring via the handheld scanner. Like always the A-10 using Raven 01-04 callsigns were on 121.3. I always hear them using this frequency and never the UHF.

On the Essex side of the river can see the aircraft much better when landing on runway 33, since approaching over the river. i wasn't really there to watch A-10's and monitor, but had a event to attend and just worked out that way.

Might be using 121.3 with Martin Tower, so they can have the UHF radio on 266.6. They were talking air to air on 266.6 and would guess it helps to have each on a different radio band, plus possibly only one radio for each band on an A-10.

In closing I don't think have ever heard a military aircraft on UHF with the last few years, but do know the tower transmits on both VHF and UHF. The C-17 that I saw months ago was also on VHF.

I’ve noticed this with other A-10 units, too. I think they have deliberately started to use VHF when flying below 10K for the purposes of situational awareness. Fort Wayne even swapped their main presets to favor VHF freqs for local control and approach - primary ARTCC freqs are still UHF, though.

Interesting. wonder if this is precursor to E-Ds taking over or supplementing the TACAMOs?

Unlikely. Last I saw, USN is planning to transition back to EC-130s for TACAMO duties. Seems like the Navy wants E-2s to get HF for long distance voice comms; they did the same for the CMV-22.

The USN bought one of the RAF E-3D aircraft for flight crerw training (not mission crew) and thus to prolong the service life of the E6 fleet.
Though pre-dating the sale announcement ZH104 ('Sleepy' - unusually for here the E3s have names) flew to the US in January 2020 so is likely to be the frame involved.
Over here ZH101 returned from it's final deployment on 4th August but contunues to fly within the UK. I don't really do tail numbers but ZH103 and ZH106 might still be airworthy...the rest of the fleet isn't.
...and what will the UK replace it's seven E3s with? Originally five E-7wedgetails, plan cut down to three with the first undergoing conversion between now and 2023
