Not sure if anyone has reported this yet but PACK 82 (17-46034), the new flagship for the 157th ARW had their boom cable snap mid flight and declared an IFE, diverted McGuire and made a successful emergency landing.

Emma Helfrich posted this article about the incident on The Drive. Many of the tankers mention visitors onboard this time of year and maneuver for photo shots with the receivers, especially the B-2s, on the refueling tracks near me in Kentucky.

Attached is an edited LiveATC audio clip of PACK 82 talking with McGuire Tower before landing. They will use stairs to deplane the civilian VIPs if possible. If they pop a slide, it will cost thousands of dollars to get it repacked and there are often some injuries in a slide evacuation.

I'm kinda scared of heights (I get dizzy on a thick carpet ;) ) and I've had to go down a 747 slide for training a few times over the years. The last time I hesitated at the top of the slide and I found my classmate's bootprint on my backside when I got off the slide at the bottom. :)

1333- Had 6 fighter jets go over going north towards NYC. I'm guessing it might have been the Thunderbirds. One TIS-B target was showing. Not near the radio here at work so I missed any comms.
1400- Looks like they went to Stewart ANGB, ADSB still showing circling west of Stewart.

0913- Viper 01 (sounds like--female pilot) trying to contact ZDC Millville (363.0)
Playing my tape of VIPER-01 She had a bad time on UHF with ZDC 363.000 as She could hear them L+C
but they were not copying her..This went on from 0907 local till 0913 local. Must have been 12 repeats of same.
Thought I got a couple male VIPER-01 calls as well maybe spare demo.
F-16 Demo team will be in Cleveland next weekend.

Lots of mention of "Laser On" today from the NJ F-16's. Anyone know what this could mean besides the obvious?
Bob
It normally means that they are practicing bombing with laser guided bombs and a laser pod. Is that what you mean by the obvious?

Doh, it took me longer than the 30-minute forum post edit timeout to figure out the obvious meaning of the call - the laser is on! :)

From the laser bombing practice I've heard at the Jefferson Range in Indiana, the bombs and laser pods use a four-digit numeric identifier to deconflict each plane's ordinance.

DING11 in the same area holding this afternoon at FL330

Just got home from work. Been looking at all the DINGs using Condor Scoty the past couple days. I'm finally home to listen live while DING is up there. Unfortunately, I'm hearing NOTHING from him! I even have 6761 kHz HF tanker freq going just in case. I'm going to have to turn on VHF ZBW for that area to listen in for any indicator of what he's doing.

Only MIL traffic caught on recordings today other than the normal stuff was SNAKE 11 ID'd as a flight of two A-10s on 255.4 at 1118 AM local entering VR-840 500' and below. KING 76 went into VR-840 at 1255 PM local using 255.4 1000' and below.

I think the whole point of the 6th AMW DING exercise is to see them maintain a 24/7 Alert Air bridge for
the East Coast.I'm up at 4am and saw most of the DING flights from Tampa,Charleston and Maine all tooling
around up and down coast at around FL350. Nobody was tanking anyone at the time.
A good Alert exercise in being on station 24/7 and staying awake at all hours :)
Wonder if mostly 6th AMW National Guard as last two letters of DING. National Guard?

Listening to ZBW_MPV52, nothing so far. DING14 was handed off to the next sector westbound. I see another KC135R replacing DING11 now orbiting at FL240
DING 16 was just chatting with DING 12 on 311.0 (MAINEiac Ops). DING 16 was refueling some B-2's in AR-110 and has been told they can't land yet so will be joining the hold in Scoty until 9pm.
