Today on LPD radio, I heard NSP 8990 and I've never heard this unit before. Making a WAG I'm thinking this is Capital security. Does anyone know for sure?

89XX is Department of Correctional Services. If the unit calling identified themselves as NSP (Nebraska State Patrol) 8990 then they were identifying themselves with the radio ID number which is how it would show up on the LPD dispatch council and not their NSP radio unit number

I tend to disagree with it being DCS. To the best of knowledge, DCS is not on the Lincoln/Lancaster radio system. I know the Warden of the Prison has access to State Patrol radio in his vehicle, and of course the Prison radio system, but that is all the radio access he has. So it is unlikely that DCS would show up on local radio.

Can you provide information where you got this numbering plan? It would be interesting to see all the numbering plans in use by state agencies. Frequently I hear NSP 447 pop up on Lincoln radio. That's not a radio unit number, thats the actual trooper badge and radio call sign, thus which led my thinking into NSP 8990 being a security unit at the Capitol building. In addition, one of the two cruisers used by Capitol Security has an NSP license plate with the number 8990. Thus, I really doubt NSP 89xx to be DCS.

The Governor detail is on the LPD system all the time when in Lincoln. Hear them traveling all over city and between the capital and the manison all the time.

During Nebraska foot ball games the trooper on the field use LPD system too.

Yes year back all car plates matched their badges. So it was pretty easy to see who was who.

Technicians 57X to
Adminstration 500 to 5XX ( Governor and parties)
Special Service Units 509 and up ( Blue bird , Helicopter)
Technical Service 6XX and up
Criminal Divison 8XX and up
State Liquor Inspectors 80XX and up

Don't know if that is any help??

When they moved Carrier up to "regular" Troopers, they now have badge numbers up to 699 that overlap with some of the "special" numbers above, so now they use a "C" in front of them.

Some other fun state numbers to know:

700-799 Conservation Officers (but G&P has a couple of officers in the 500's)
828X-829X EMS specialists
8250-8255 Dept of Ag investigators
8915-8954 Corrections/Parole
8701-8746 Fire Marshals
8601-8607 Fire Marshal Training Div.
