Tonight while listening to the usual OPP business of running plates and checking drivers, I noticed that they weren't coming through on the normal talkgroup number. Where I am, 3OPS21 usually comes in on 8544, but tonight it's showing up as 2816. They are doing some marine checking with an MNR officer, would they be linking the MNR radio with the OPP talkgroup?

Please disregard my previous post. Just had some action on MNR001 2816, ... They are linking the MNR and OPP talkgroups..

You never know who and what is going to be patched 2gether.
Its smart to either put in all the talkgroups or run your scanner in search mode not to miss anything
In Zone 1 I used to hear Haldimand County patched with Bruce County and Grey Co.

This was back in 2004 and I had never heard Haldimand 6 Charly and First Nations 6 Quebec calls mixed in with 6 Lima and 6 Romeo. I enjoyed listening to calls that were over 300 Km;s away while on holiday on the peninsula.

On occasions even the 5 Bravo units on Auroras talkgroup will appear on the GTR talkgroup or even on a MNR t/g.

Better yet, get a tapped scanner or hook up one of the new ones that come already ready to use Trunk 88. It explains and follows everything that is going on.

Sorry about the error in the talkgroup. Was a bit of inattention at my end. As for distance in MNR talkgroups.... Some times I hear some CO's as far away as Chapleau... From where I am, that would be about 400 kms of road travel... Maybe more,,,,,

Yup you just might, cuz here in Chapleau and area we use the talkgroup: 3NRO02.

So maybe a MNR guy in your area was on that talkgroup and is why you were hearing them all the way up here.

So it is possible to hear stuff from other places you don't normally hear if they happen to be on a talkgroup from another area. Depending if the talkgroup is allowed on that tower.

The MNR TGs have pretty wide ranging tower affiliations due not only to the operational nature of their work, small number of CO's, and the most important reason being that they usually don't say alot other than checking in every so often and running the occaisional plate or person. Once in a while you will hear surveillance work being done but not very often. Because of the light workload they represent to a dispatcher, one dispatcher can handle a wider coverage area. That is also the reason after a certain time in the early morning they will cut back on dispatchers and patch TG's together like 3ops20 and 21.

It seems like in Zone 1 You rarely hear MNR unless they are patched with other T/G's.
Sometimes they are patched with the Caledon OPP talkgroup or with MTO Enforcement details.
I rarely hear them on any GTA-Golden Horseshoe towers.

They are more active off the Brantford tower on 2768 and it sounds like all MNR in the western area (Wellington Co, Bruce, Grey and points west)all use this T/G.
