Strange Traffic On Freqs...

Hi to all,

While spinning the dial on my HF rig, I decided to spin a little further than normal to check out some activity on the scope in the area of 14.500 MHz (give or take a bit). All I heard was "This is US-55 to CT-27 for a radio check." Men, women, and even children were doing this, and that's all they were doing (radio checks). It was nonsensical. Does anyone know what this is?

At this time 1318 UTC in USB I hear a number of stations asking for radio checks. All in English, both OMs and YLs. Don't want to post their actual calls but some of the prefixes are Charlie Alpha and Uniform Sierra. Perhaps a military net? Have mined the Internet for leads but nothing so...
