It may sound like things are status quo, but I am pretty sure old Channel one and two is part of the LTR system. Channels 3 and 4 remain conventional UHF channels. Today I seen and caught on close call a Strathcona county ambulance booking off on the Nuns on channel 4. I did take a peek at the radio, noticed the radio Alfa tag as Ch. 4 with NO trunk affliation.

It may appear things are status quo as old Channel one frequency is new Fire/EMS LTR channel one home slot. Ch two frequency is new Fire/EMS LTR channel two home slot. Channel 3 and 4 are still remain conventional, no change. Channel 5,6,7 are LTR channels 8,9 and possible 10 are simplex.

LTR Ch. 1 and 2 are simlucast too all LTR sites, (See RR database for information) Channels 5,6,7 only to east tower. LTR channel 1,2,5,6,7 are allowed to roam to all sites.

A simple way to tell if a radio frequency is LTR, listen closely with your radio un-squelched, in this case on the "old" channel one and two you can detect the key click every 3 seconds. If you were to run any of the LTR decoding software on any of these two frequencies you will see LTR passport and standard data packets.

The LTR decoding software out thier is just ok at the best. I'm doing my best to sort it out with the tools I have. I am hoping when the system is actually complete. I will tap my sources for the real and complete story.

I have given up trying to sort this system out. Its a mix of LTR standard / passport , conventional and some other trunk radio system mixed then shuffled over 3 possible 4 radio tower sites.

I found if you program in all the frequencies listed as posted in the RR database section as a straight conventional frequency, you can pretty much monitor everything you could of in the past plus more.

Listening to the system the other night sitting on the same one freqency i heard ambulance 11 called on ch. 1 then dispatched to a MVA in Sherwood Park. Ambulance 11 was asked to go to ch. 5. Ambulance 11 switched to ch. 5 and acknowledge so over the radio. Ambulance 11 was asked by dispatch to move to channel 6, a couple of seconds later ambulance 11 acknowledged so over the radio on ch. 6. All of this heard on one frequency.

Intrresting clip from Sherwood Park news

"Strathcona County Emergency Services have already replaced their existing radio system with a new one that will be compatible with the province-wide initiative upon completion.

“As part of scheduled replacement for the radio system in emergency services and in other county departments, the county has replace the radios over the course of the last few months,” said Deputy Fire Chief Ken Jones with SCES.

“We went live with our new radio system on Oct. 15.”

I don't how this LTR system is compatible with the provice-wide initative, oh well

Yeah, that's what Wheatland County was reportedly told about their TRBO system, too.

unfortunatly i do not have any equipment that can recieve Uhf, but i have been on a SCT bus. i noticed in the spring that the buses went from Vhf to Uhf. as well i have seen that the (/\/\) bus radios display an id when another radio is transmitting. not sure if this helps or not as i said at this time i can not recieve Uhf. not sure if the SCT buses are on the same system as the SCES or not. i actually thought that the buses might have been TRBO at first but now i am not so sure. again i dont have the capeability to monitor uhf (gift hint to my GF). once i have the ability to monitor uhf i will start figuring out sc as i live on the east side of edmonton.

yip, the buses share the same system as SCES, I am thinking they tried the TRBO radios for a short period of time, then like most others who did tried TRBO, did'nt like them or did not perform to spec.
A recent on-air incident with SC bylaw, may bring back the TRBO radios again. I see SC Bylaw is asking for $ for even newer radios and get off the new system they just joined.
