I have thought about this & have mixed feelings , while I am grateful for this site , I think it may be too public
I wish there were a more low profile way to share info ,like just make a post saying you" have info on event going on your area pm me for freqs & details.." use pms or whatever , I have heard many things that I did not post even though it would be beneficial to the monitoring hobby ,because I felt it would contribute to the different agencies switching to encryption , to compare notes & technical hobby related issues while advancing the hobby in a public forum , also lets them see things they may not have realized & may tip the scales against us. everyone here makes great contributions in all aspects & wouldn't discourage that but the way things are now , the agencies in north America have shown us they dont feel we have a right to monitor them & now have the capability to stop or severely limit the hobby ,...all they need is a reason
therefore I would say continue to enjoy this hobby while we still can but just think about if what your posting may "stir their nest" further....

honestly it makes me feel bad to have to curtail the sharing of info , but this I feel is what it has come to
Im not saying anyone shouldn't contribute in any way , but that we should make some effort or come up with some way to do it so it is low profile & doesnt attract their attention , I am all for any audio feeds or anything else , I would maybe just have the feed & say have people pm you for connection info or something rather than posting the link to it publicly ,thats all , the same for any sensitive events you hear i guess too , like i say I kind of have mixed feelings on it , I appreciate everyones time & effort making great contributions here & I try as well where I think it is appropriate, but we must keep in mind to always operate as if we are under scrutiny..there are agencies that can go enc quickly if they find a reason to , its just something we have to keep in mind when posting info ,...I didnt always feel this way but unfortunately I think it may be better

You can still stream it on RR, and you can make it private and not listed in the listings.

If you do decide to go that route, please pm me the link, I'd love to listen to Northern Ontario.

It's an untapped territory that although not as populated the rest of the province, could still be interesting nonetheless.

It's nice to see people using a little discretion when it comes to this stuff. I've been in the same boat.... Heard some pretty interesting things over the months, not all PD related by any means, but it makes you think.... Should I really post this? As the old scanner code in Canada says. don't share what you hear... and don't use it for personal gain. I've often thought the Hotshot list sometimes treads across this but it's obviously a fine line.

Basically it comes down to common sense. If you hear something really juicy, chances are you don't post it here. That's what PM's to your buddies are for. Discreet is elite

Something else that's kinda bothering me too...

A certain tv news station, who always wants to be the first with breaking news, and sometimes without ALL the facts, because what I hear and what they say are two different things, has been using the phrase "scanner chatter" a few times on air in some of the more recent stories. This phrase may be getting people interested in acquiring a scanner. I'm afraid that it's these new listeners that will go out and chase fire trucks or try to beat police to the scene because they do not know Discreet is Elite.

ya the tv station using the term scanner chatter serves no good purpose , unless they are part of the campaign to push for encryption ,...I see posts about things from time to time that involve talkgroups or events that Im sure are pretty sensitive weather its a drug bust or certain task force activity ,...I just think the way things are going its best to share this info in a more discrete manner , Its a shame & i hate saying it , but we really have to think about what we post , there's been a few times I have retracted a post after rethinking it & weighing its contribution compared to its sensitive nature & how it would be another reason for encryption, I wish that wasnt the way it is & this hobby could be like it was in the past but those days are over i guess.

Think maybe some one should call the station and explain, not to use that , there may be a small chance that they will listen, talk to the manager in the news department. One of my kid's work's in that bussiness and the news depends on scanner's alot more then we do, so they will only be shooting them selfs in the foot for saying that. Yea, I think they will listen, if some one calls the manager in the news department.

I have to agree it's not a good idea to stream the O.P.P. I'm sure they don't really want us listening in the first place. They have enough problems to deal with. I don't see it helping the hobby in Canada when so many Police are going encrypted as it is. Just MHO.

There will be ZONE 3 stream here....I sold all my 996T's as well as my personal Unit.

But just the same , I agree with this thread ..Its silly things like this ( TV , Media and PLAIN STUPID PEOPLE IN THE HOBBY ) will lead to ENC being displayed in all our Uniden scanners!

If you do call the news Dept , speak with an ASIGNMENT EDITOR - cc your letter to the general manager , most of these operations will listen to you , always be polite - and FORTS RULE 1 - DISCREET is ELITE
