I really want to stream on an Ubuntu 10.14 machine (not a fan of Windows), but I don't fully understand how to setup Darkice. Wondering if someone would be willing to hold my hand and help me get it setup? I don't fully understand what (and why) to type in a terminal window. Is there a program with a more gooey interface that I can use to stream instead?

Thanks in advance for your help.

There's a limited GUI interface for Darkice called Darksnow. You could give that a try. I've used it a couple time and it worked ok. Once you get things set up with the Darkice.cfg file you won't really need Darksnow.

Your Icecast server admin should tell you most of your settings for Darkice. Let me know if I can help.

I have darkice installed and running for my feed (most information from the Wiki page), but I had to use the darkice-full version from deb-multimedia.org for mp3 support and a slightly modified config file from the tutorial to convert my input (usb sound card, 44100khz) to the required 22050khz. This is just an extra line "sampleRate = 22050" in the Icecast2-0 config section.

If you have any questions feel free to ask on this thread instead of PM so that everyone can learn.

The whole changing the config file thing doesn't make sense to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The only reason I had to modify the Wiki's sample config is because my cheap (usb) sound card can only record at a rate of 44,100kHz. I added that line to convert the upload stream (to RR) to the required rate of 22050kHz.

Are you having any specific problems with other parts of the config file? Most of it is pretty well documented in the comments (anything after a #) but if you are used to GUI configs and not files full of text it can be a little daunting.

Yes I don't understand GUI configs and all that. Would like to learn, but it's all Greek to me. Would you still be able to help me get this setup, or am I too much of a novice to make it work on a Linux machine?

Sorry for my absence. I am still confused as to which part you are having trouble with. What does your current config look like? What error message(s) are you getting?

Thanks for your help. Where would I find the config file? That's how much of a newbie I am.

Andy, not really sure if this would help but if you haven't found it check this out: http://forums.radioreference.com/li...anner-feed-using-rasberry-pi.html#post1964192

The pi runs the Debian version of Linux but that post has a link in it to a fairly detailed setup procedure. I have a couple pi's setup using that procedure and they work very well. There is a link in that procedure to the congfig file. In that case it is at /etc/darkice.cfg.
