Hey all,

I've got a Stridsberg 8 port powered BNC multicoupler. I've been using it in the car and out of nowhere it stopped working today -- simply no power to the unit. I tongue-tested the power cable and trust me, it works! I opened up the multicoupler and visually everything looked intact. I've already sent it in to the manufacturer for repair. Just wondering if anyone's had the same sort of issue and what the fix was for it.

Thanks!

How are you powering it in the car?

I have 4 Stridsbergs and have had them for years. I had one go bad a couple years ago and sent it in for repair and it came back a week or so later and functioned fine since.

Stridsberg customer support is great, so I suspect your multicoupler will come back working fine.

I suspect there is an internal fuse or protection diode that may have popped. Perhaps there was a voltage spike or RF overload in your car.

Right here...
There is a protection diode and although mine has not popped, my friend has had his pop twice due to near field lightning. John has great customer service just send them in and he will fix it up and send it right out to you.

I'm powering it via direct 12V DC... they told me when I first got it to just cut the wire that goes to the power transformer and give it a direct 12V feed from the vehicle. Their service has been great so far so I have no doubt that it'll come back good as new.

Check the voltage on your charging system and your battery. It may be that the protection diode blew due to a spike caused by a marginal alternator.

Cold weather seems to reveal all sorts of ills.

I doubt it is built to take teh kind of garbage on a car's electrical system.

Of course their service is great, you are paying 2 to 4 times what it is worth.
