This show was a joke. Just like all of the other sensational "job" shows, loggers, oil field roughnecks, crab fishermen, ice road truck drivers etc. It is obviously what the public wants to watch. Lots of disfunctional, sociopathic personalities.

I find it funny on the story link SLO gave, about the two twins, they say they look at a "Internal CHP Website."
There are three versions of the CHP CAD: the public site at http://cad.chp.ca.gov; an internal one for CHP eyes only, accessible only through CHP LAN computers; and a "media" version which requires an Organization Code, User ID, and a password. I suppose that's the one they're implying they have access to.

Somewhere in this room. Right now, you're very col
The media version lets you drive around LA looking like a poseur.

LOL!!!!!! It also tells you where all the stalled cars are so you can stake them out and get a crash shot.

Seriously, as a former stringer myself the clips they have online for the show were pretty entertaining I thought. I usually am in bed at that hour but I may stay up late on Wednesday and catch the next episode. I wish Tru would put them online like other networks do.

Yeah I just dont see what the media portion could have that the public cant see. So if anyone has access to the media part of it, Im curious what the difference is.

The media version is much less "sanitized" than the public version, both as to the types of incidents displayed and the information within the incidents. The public site generally shows only traffic-related incidents, and only sketchy details. No crime calls, arrest information, pursuits, traffic stops, service requests (disabled vehicles, etc), calls received by CHP but transferred to other agencies, etc. Also, the software - and/or the dispatchers - filters out personal information such as names, license numbers, phone numbers, nature of injuries, arrest history, and the like. I haven't had access to the media version for quite a while, but it would often display that kind of stuff.

There's some good information on Tracy's website at

True point. I tried to get access, but they asked for too much paperwork. I said no thanks, too much of a hassle.

This description of the media CAD is right on. I have access at work. It has a lot more detail than the public CAD. When you log in you must agree not to divulge any person info found on the site.

If you go to the "Resources" Menu on CHP CAD, you will see "Filed Incidents", with everything transferred to other agencies... I know for some departments, such as my own, when you transfer a call, you make a new incident and just note it in the comments that you trans' to such and such agency..

Along those lines, in the media CAD it shows a dup incident line with the log number that was assigned to it by the call taker. On some crashes during commute time they get a bunch of dup calls.
