Look at the welcome screen on my PSR-500. Sure, the sticker on back says 500...but look at the last line of the display.

Hmmm, is GRE getting a jump on marketing the next model? ;)

Heck, mine says PSR-6300.

I figured out how to use the GLOB menu, too.

Now why would I have gone to the trouble to post a photo if I'd done this myself? You're just jealous yours didn't come that way...

Get it Back w/help of Open Screen

Seriously (although thats hard for me!!!): I have a friend who recently had a BCD396T stolen out of his truck in his driveway overnight. As he was waiting for the glass man to show up the next morning, he got a call on his cell from a "Private" number. He answered it. Turns out it was a local PD gang officer asking if he owned a Uniden scanner and if it was recently stolen. They had figured out how to turn it on and were greeted by a message that gave my friend's name and phone number. He not only got the scanner back, but his good time radio out of the dash and other items in the truck that the little thieving turds had nicked, plus one went to the pokey for possession of stolen property. So use that open screen to your advantage. All my units with these screens simply states:
This Scanner
Property of:
my name
phone number

Great idea! I've put a label on my handhelds with my amateur callsign, but you'd have to get lucky enough for a police officer to find it who knew what it was. I like this much better.

yep - that's pretty much what I have on mine (including my 396) as well.... I figure changes are slim getting it back but you never know... best bet? don't leave it where it can get stolen....

Practice Safe Scanning!

I did the amature call on the last line for years. But after hearing this story I changed all mine. Cops are curious, and if they find a high dollar scanner in some turd's car they are going to check it out big time. You can't always take it with you, so it could get nicked from your crib, or from your ride. Mr. Drug Addict might be able to sell it to a crack dealer, but how is he going to explain the welcome screen with someone else's name on it to a pawn shop owner? I want my unit back. And I can almost guarantee you that a career criminal who might be lucky enough to nick my unit, won't even know that the welcome screen can even be changed let alone change it! Eventually it will turn up.
