Lou
I tried responding using "quote" but it was getting too messy (you quote of my quote etc.). I'm sure that it's not all misunderstandings at my end but moving ahead...
On the TRS Database main page, you will be searching on "State" whether you are in the US, Canada, or Australia for that matter. Yes, in Canadian listings there is reference to "Province" but it is not uniform. This is not going to kill anybody, just kind of bugs me seeing it all the time.
As far as I know, Canada is not inconsistant in its naming of geographic subdivisions. Provinces are divided into counties as the US is; and further into "townships". Ottawa resides in Carleton county.
Callsigns ARE public information with the limitation that "sensitive" records for police, military, and certain parts of government are blocked (all for our own good of course

) The IC database has been extremely useful nevertheless.
Go to any trunked system record and click on the site link, which opens a pop-up window; it is there. For US systems clicking on
the FCC Callsign takes you to the FCC database. For non-US systems, the same happens and of course nothing will be found,
so it is a bit of a minor logistical error. Could I suggest the callsign be ghosted in those cases, or if the link is not hard-wired and can be set by country, for Canada it would be:
http://apollo.ic.gc.ca/pls/eng_alpha/web_search.call_sign_input
(this link seems to be temporarily down at the moment).
You are correct, SMR and EMSR are used by Industry Canada. I missed this for some reason; sorry. A search of
www.strategis.ic.gc.ca confirms this. That said, I don't rely on the news media for technical definitions, they sometimes borrow terms from wherever convenient.
As for us all being Americans (teehee) I suppose "we" are all North Americans.
I am aware that the admins are doing the best they can and at times overloaded; the critique is not personal, except of course for individual opinions.
