The reason they post in the PORT of Departure state, is we ASSUME [which can be a BAD Thing] that folks in the area will chime in and post back CURRENT information [vs the much outdated Carnival LTR] and also provide helpful info on the area [things to do, see, eat, drink, meet-up] to do before/after the Cruise.
Things like where to park and Watch the ships arrive/leave w/o being bothered by the Local Constabulary etc.
It's a toss up as to where folks post, but alas there is not enough traffic on the topic [3-4 posts for 1-2 mo's at a time] and my comments also include messages sent personally to me vs the boards.
There will always be gaps. Bad info submitted is one reason. It's amazing where folks will cut-n-paste OLD out-dated data and submit as current.
Learning the channel plans, takes time [months], some channels change weekly, others by PORT [Season].
It doesn't take going on a Cruise to find many of the Frequencies, but many folks won't spend time [just like Searching for FEDS]
Cruise Season in Boston starts in April [thru the end of Oct] and just sitting near the port for Arrival/Departures provides much info.
I have a road trip to Miami next month and plan on encountering 20+ ships between Miami and Lauderdale for updates
The EPIC is not there, because No One has submitted any Info.
Most LTR systems don't require ALL of the Frequencies.
Users are typically assigned a Home Channel, and ONLY if it's busy get moved to the next Frequency. Program it with No PL
We have a few Special LTRS here in Boston, that provide no LCN when they transmit [for Scanners] so program without PL and you can still listen. Just not Track, if they change channels.
Good discussion here, but like folks have said, NOT Enough traffic to warrant it's own Forum. Use the Marine Forum or the State for the PORT of Departure/Arrival
To reply to those who have responded:
Bill, the problem with posting in the state where the cruise originates will not yield much information from the DB. For example FL has 5 major cruise ship ports, but I don't see much in the FL forum. And the problem with cruise ships is a ship might leave from Miami for 3 months and then shift to New Orleans. So why not consolidate it in one place? Yes I took a look at your web page. It is very good, but there are gaps. For example I did not see Norwegian Epic. I saw some ship listed as LTR so you would need all the trunking freqs. If I was to go on a cruise today I would use the information you have and try to supplement it for you if I discovered anything else.
