Somehow I have programmed my 436 with a couple of systems not associated with a favorites list quick key. I cannot find these systems anywhere in my Sentinel software. I can find them under their state FL quick key, but I cannot find any unassociated systems.

Considering of the systems is the North Carolina VIPER (239 sites and lots of TGIDs) my 436 is missing a lot of calls. :(

Has anyone had a similar situation? Do I need to remove the associated system and then add it back?

Many thanks

Not sure exactly what you mean. Every system is in a Favorites List (ignoring for the moment the main database). There is no way to make a system outside of a favorites list.

Anything that doesn't have a quick key assigned to it will automaticly be scanned unless you manually have avoided them.
Read the scanner and check in Sentinel overview where you have that system and if it, or its departments and sites, have not been avoided by mistake.

If the system is not in any of your Favorite Lists, then the only way you can scan it is to enable the Main Database. You can scan things from the Main Database without copying them to a Favorite List. The Main Database always has Location Control enabled (otherwise you would be scanning everything in North America), so you must set your location correctly in the scanner.

If you use the scanner while traveling, then you need to connect GPS to the scanner so that it always knows your correct location and enables the correct local traffic.

What I have are several systems that are scanning, but do not have a FL Quick Key associated with them. I have turned off all Favorites List QKs and the ones scanning show with a 'system' (.SYSQK.DeptQK) QK. I have been able to turn them off by entering a ".SysQK".

I guess I will need to go through each FL and find those systems and assign a QK to them. I thought if a system were subordinate to an FL QK, turning off the FL would close all sub systems.

Correct, if you turn off a FL, all systems within that FL are also turned off.

But, you said the FL that these systems are in don't have a FLQK assigned. So, the only way to turn off the FL is to go into MENU --> Set Scan Selection --> Select Lists to Monitor

Then scroll to the FL you want to turn off and press E.

Assigning system Quick Keys to systems in Favorite Lists that do not have a Quick Key assigned is a bad idea. Think of Quick Keys like a tree. You're going to have unexpected results if you have branches that aren't connected to the main stem.

I guess I will need to go through each FL and find those systems and assign a QK to them.

Bad idea. You've already confused yourself with the quick keys you have. Trying to remember a Quick Key for every system in every Favorite list is just going to make things worse.

I thought if a system were subordinate to an FL QK, turning off the FL would close all sub systems.

That is correct. If you assign a QK to a Favorite List, then if you turn off that QK, then everything in the Favorite List will be disabled.

Trying to better explain the problem. I will use NC Viper because it is one of those with the problem (and the biggest system).

I set up a Favorite List for North Carolina and assigned it an FLQK. Under NC I dropped in the NC VIPER, did some editing, an assigned it a system key.

Yet somehow the NC VIPER was scanning even when the NC FL was turned off.

There were a couple of smaller systems doing the same thing. I finally got them turned off by seeing what system key numbers were showing up in the display and then using the 'dot.sysqk' to turn them off.

So in Sentinel, I can see those systems in the FL's I placed them and all my FL's have a QK. I just cannot see if those systems were somehow orphaned.

As I am on the road and only have Sentinel to work with I'll wait until I get home tomorrow and use another 436 programming tool. One that gives me a better view of the full 'tree' and maybe I can find the problem.

It's hard to visualize your configuration (or what you believe you have as a configuration) without seeing it.

If possible (and you are still having issues), export your config and post it so we can help figure it out.

dot.sysqk turns off the system in the current active favorite list so the favorite list where not turned off as you thought you did? Or did you activate the favorite list, then turned of the system, and deactivated the favorite list again and was well?

I would double check in what FL lists you have a NC Viper system, it must be included in a favorite list you didn't expect it to be?

I am not ignoring the comments or suggestions. I just got back from a week on the road (how I discovered my problem), and I have a bunch of stuff planned for this weekend. Once I get a chance to really dig into this I will post what I find.

Thanks again for the comments.
