• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I understand that Tait announced today in a dealer webinar that they are releasing a software upgrade that can be purchased for existing and new TP9800 and TP9900 radios that will enable Front Panel Programming (FPP).

This is part of their new feature set that is being released with the new TP9800 aimed at Wild Fires

Was announced to us dealers this past week. We have more information about the Wildland Fire radio on our website at Tait Radio | Your Critical Communications Partner | New Orleans, LA - ComJoT LLC

Anyone observed a sudden issue with the TP9800 where their volume is at max level regardless of the volume knob position? Radio was fine last week, sat over the weekend, and when powered up today the issue was present. I've stepped the firmware up from 3.00.04 to 3.01.02 and now 3.03.08 and the issue persists.

Does using a speaker mic change anything?
Same behavior with a TSM4 speaker mic.

EDIT: To add, in addition to bumping the firmware I have reloaded the programming file, reloaded the saved calibration file, and loaded a saved programming file from weeks ago and the issue persists.

You are kind of down to failed encoder or it’s circuit. You probably already did this but open squelch or tune in weather broadcast so as to have continuous audio while you play with volume knob. No change or glitches will prove nothing but any effect from playing with knob will give evidence to failed encoder. Like you I hope it’s firmware or software but it’s looking like hardware since failure happened independent of any programming changes. Tait NZ will probably be interested in talking to you directly if you reach out.

I’ve had a lot of issues with the software, mysterious issues that they can’t seem to duplicate but they have been pretty responsive so far.

No change on this thing from adjusting the volume knob while in RX. Volume is constant throughout the entire range.

Trying hard not to make ridiculous wild guesses…all too common on forums…
Probably no info on how to do a hard reset— might wipe your installed options anyway. If radio does a soft power down normally then maybe leave radio on and pull battery to cycle power.
Beyond that check your Bluetooth and cycle through the settings in addition to just turning it off. Bluetooth competes for your radios audio and would be one place where buggy code might get lost. Do you have a BT earpiece that will pair with your radio? If so see if it works correctly. I have success with old wrap around the ear with small mic boom Plantronics units on all of my BT radios. I don’t suspect Wi-Fi but heck play with it if the mood strikes you.
