Although I'll miss listening to Tampa PD during nighttime hours, I feel they are long overdue for an upgrade. Their system is reminiscent of Detroit's 453 MHz in audio quality and performance, which was recently replaced. Keep us updated!

an 800 MHz trunked system for Tampa would run around 20 million dollars. Since Pinellas county was also mentioned as getting something out of the six million along with Tampa and Hillsboro then they are looking at keeping the UHF system and just putting in some equpment to inter operate.

Since Hillsboro county is on a MaCOM system, it would not make any sense if Tampa were going to a new 800 system do use anything other than MaCOM. This would then just leave a requirement for establishing interoperability with Pinellas on a limited basis.

I was one of the bidders for the radio upgrade. All TPD did was buy new Kenwood radios and batteries. They are looking into replacing thier repeaters but I do not know the status on that. They are also looking into buying Mutual Aid radios to talk to Pinellas, and Hills agencies. For those of you who are interested my website is www.mutualaidsupplies.com
