Was wondering if anyone has ever used TCP Optimizer to speed up their internet and computer. Is it a pretty good program? Does anyone know of some other programs or add-ons that could optimize firefox?

Any changes you would see would be minimal at best. The point of these optimizers really is nothing more then to make a company profit. I tend to shy away from things that say they will fix my computer, improve speed, improve network access, etc. Simply put, seldom do these products deliver as promise.

It's all gimmicks. You can only change the packet protocol on your computer/network, once it hits the internet you have no control over what gets priority. The only time it would make a difference if you are running multiple bandwidth intensive apps on your network, and want a program to be priority.

I've been using OpenDNS for years, never had any reason to complain. There have been times with certain sites that friends complain their ISP's DNS servers show the site as unreachable, while OpenDNS keeps chugging along.

Used it for years on all my computers. Great little app. especially if you know what the other registry settings are for. Plus, you can get access to the networking reg settings right with the utility.

As for Firefox. TweakGuides.com - Firefox Tweak Guide

The point in theis utility is to make sure the pipe from your connection to the Internet is fully open, especially on local file transfers. There's other stuff you can do inside DD-WRT, a router firmware. Then you have half-open connections to worry about too

Turn off all things that auto update.
Use XP?

I did those manually and it does makes a difference. What would be a good DNS server to use?

Used it for about two years and had no problems. It might be the way you have your network configured.Could be Samba, Netbios, etc Maybe WINS.

I used a tool that checks DNS server speeds and when i ran it it showed Google's 8.8.8.8 to be the fastest.
